Will Propecia Keep My Hair For Life?

I started taking Propecia 1mg when I noticed a little recession (about half an inch back from my normal hairline) in my temples about 2 years ago when I was 19. I couldn't tell if it was actually male pattern baldness, but my derm told me he thought it was the beginnings of it as he did see some miniaturization in my hairline. I have a full head of hair besides this.

2 years later and my hair has thickened up a lot all over and I did get some regrowth that seems to be continuing very slowly. However, I would like to know how long propecia will continue to regrow or at least maintain the hair that I have. I seemed to have caught hair loss early so I think that could be beneficial in the long term. I guess I always thought that this drug would keep my hair for life, but I can feel very anxious when I think about the future and the chance that it won't.

Any ideas or personal experiences from people that started propecia at a young age like I did? How long can I expect to maintain my hair?

Who can know? At best people have only been on it 20 years.

Don't worry, I dont know if this work for life, but this can save your hair for next 10-20 years or more, in some people stop working in 5 years, the others still working all this years.
Again dont worry in the next 5-10 years I thing we going see a new and better tratament.

No problem man. You're probably right about there being a better treatment in the future. Propecia still is great though and who knows, maybe it will continue to work forever.

I would say around 6 months. I went through a shed in the beginning because of the drug that made my hair look terrible. The key is to be patient because it takes time to work. Propecia has a 90% success rate, probably even more. Just be consistent with taking it and it will gradually improve and don't get discouraged when you have a shed because it will probably grow back even better/thicker.

jetlife1, from what you described, your male pattern baldness doesn't seem very aggressive at all. I am assuming that Propecia will work well for you for many years or possibly even for life if your baldness never becomes unforgivingly aggressive.
