Will Stopping Minoxidil If It Didn't Work Stop My Shed?

Been on minoxidil for almost 9 months I think. Went through the initial shed then started to get some regrowth but that quickly disappeared as 2 months after my first shed stopped another started and has been going on for more than 5 months now :( Will stopping minoxidil stop this shed? Way below baseline and shedding 150 - 200 hairs per day, almost every day. Can't afford to lose much more hair, getting thinner on top and hairline has drastically receded :(

I get the same sh*t. I do get some regrowth, but I constantly lose anywhere from 100-200 hairs each day, everyday. I feel like minoxidil has screwed with my hair cycle and for whatever reason, I’m in a constant shedding phase. Maybe it’s because I’m in “hyper anagen”, like it’s always triggering shedding of hairs to make new ones, but I can’t keep up with the loss. Like if I only lost a normal amount of hair, say 10-20 hairs a day, I would be doing ok, but because I lose soooo much, my hair is thinning every day.

If you stop you will lose anything you regrew plus about 5%. We’re screwed. Sorry.

Oh dear. I'm going to gradually drop it and see what happens. I refuse to believe I'll lose more hair than I currently am. Even if I do at least eventually my hair will be free of the clutches of minoxidil and maybe these anti androgens can start doing their thing!
I need regrowth like a sadomasochist needs pain but I'll settle for stability if I even get that. There's gotta be a way to stop the shedding, I mean it is happening for a reason.

If minoxidil was actually helping you will shed huge. I have been on and off minoxidil at least 10 times or more. Never had a major shed which means it never made an huge impact on my situation. I really think lower NWs like you will not notice anything major.

Thanks for the info DrHouse. Don't you think that gradually dropping it will lessen a shed if I get one? I was originally on 5mg 2x a day and as of today I am on 5mg once a day.

Does not hurt if you want to taper it off.

I have "only" been on Minoxidil for 7 months and I never really shed as much as some of you guys but I did shed more for about 2 weeks after having used in for 3 weeks... happened again after 5 months and went on for 2 weeks. I guess those were the shedding phases but I am not really getting any regrowth, heck I think my hairline has gotten even worse because of it. Should I stop using it? or is it too early? I just started with dutasteride, is it the wrong time to stop with minoxidil? also curious if you should taper it off or just stop completely? Should you stop at any certain time in relation to the shedding phases?

The manufacturer states if no regrowth is achieved in 4 months then to stop. I do think tapering off would be the best approach. Have you tried finasteride? It didn't work for me and I'm considering dutasteride myself.

Yes, on I'm finasteride since July/August last year... stopped a lot of my "natural" shedding but didn't do much else... had I started with finasteride 6-8 months earlier I would probably never jumped on minoxidil to begin with to greed regrowth. I have now jumped on Duta since 12 days back and I will be using both for a month and then remove finasteride (dunno if that makes sense but I've read others do the same).

Hit a year on oral minoxidil and my shed is getting much worse. All diffuse with a hairline still in tact. I lose 100-200 hairs everyday all lengths. It has been miserable. Not sure if RUbhas made this worse. The she started in December but didn’t begin RU until February. My density will never recover.
