word of warning about odering online/customs...

so about five weeks ago i ordered 60 finpecia tablets from inhouse pharmacy europe (via india). i was wondering why the delivery was taking so long and today i got my answer: the packet was intercepted by customs in germany and i received a letter from them saying i had broken the law and was suspected of ordering with intention to supply to a third party.
thankfully they have given me the option to agree to the tablets being confiscated and the 'case' being dropped without any further formalities. needless to say, i will be giving my consent and hopefully that's the end of it.
i have read elsewhere on this board that the german customs are particularly stringent. this was the first time i ordered tablets over the internet and i guess it will be the last. so i would just advise anyone who orders from these people to check out the laws of their country carefully and not to assume (as i did) that it'll just slip through customs. i think the letter is basically just a warning, but it gave me an unpleasant surprise i could have done without...

has anyone else here ordered into germany or did you have more success?

Same thing's been happening in Canada too. I was getting my pills shipped from overseas for about 3 years now and it looks like for whatever reason, customs has been cracking down on this recently. The places I get my pills from can no longer ship to Canada.

It's really a bunch of BS. I'm sure they'll claim it's for our own safety but it's really about the money.

Yup happened here in Ireland too , though the 2nd time I ordered it worked. Don't worry they won't do anything.

yeah well i looked around a few german forums and see this has happened to a few other people too and no one seems to have got into trouble for it, so i'll send them my little letter of apology and hopefully that's the end of it...
i guess i will have to go through an official doctor after all. i hear there are some other sites that are more reliable and ship from within europe, but i presume these little transgressions go on record and getting caught a second time might cause more trouble....

i know that ireland has quite trickey laws too. did you also order from inhouse? and what sort of warning did you get from the customs?

Basically the exact same , never wrote anything back to them and then ordered a few weeks later from unitedpharmacies.com and it got through customs.

I don't think you've anything to worry about , it seems to happen a lot.

There won't be a problem if you order from within the EU.
I've orderd lots of times to german and austrian addresses including controlled meds.

Don't apologize in the letter. You are admitting guilt if you apologize. Reply in a neutral way that you accept the confiscation.

the thing is, i actually didn't realise it was illegal to order those into germany. i assumed that if inhouse pharmacy shipped to here it meant it was legal. so i apologised for my unintentional infringement of the law and said i was unaware of it.
well, i sent off the letter now. hopefully i won't hear anything more from them

technically, Merk deserves their royalties. I'm just getting while the getting's good. I know Canada is much stricter than the US, so I bet I still have time. But in the US, you are supposed to order at most 3 months at a time. That does not mean they won't stop you. It just means as long as it is 3 months or less, they won't jail you.

Portuguese customs are sh*t. It's a lottery: sometimes you're able to get your drugs, sometimes you're not.

I heard in Mexico they barely have customs at all. It is the postal workers who open all your mail to see if there is something they want to steal. Usually it is just the boxes that are opened.

I thought after 7 years of Finasteride monopoly, other companies can then legally make and sell generics. :dunno:

I never have ordered meds over the net you know.

The only reason I can think of the crack down on it is patent infringement, but so far even docs prescribe proscar to bald men to cut in 4ths, and customs just confinscates for our safety. I guess Merk is not complaining much or I'm sure customs would be stricter.
