Would an increase in finasteride cause a shed ?

So as you may have seen from previous posts ,as I felt I was losing ground at the back after being on 0.5mg daily for the past 4 years I went to 1mg a daily one month ago .

Today I noticed LOADS of hairs shedding . Shedding has never been an issue but today I’ve noticed loads . All hairs look healthy .

Is this a good sign that the 1mg has kickstarted or a bad sign that male pattern baldness is progressing and now i’m seeing it in full flow?

At present I can put my hand through my head and each time there’s at least 10 hairs on my hand… this has never been the case.

It is possible to cause an increase in shedding. Anytime you change your hair loss treatments, it can happen. You have to patient and wait at least 6 months to know what is truly happening. Microneedling for me to shed more than my normal amounts so anything can happen in the game.

micro needling caused a shed? Did you quit or “ride it out”?

Thanks @DoctorHouse . I just assumed as I was already of some amount of finasteride , I wouldn’t get the shredding say someone may get who has just started taking it as my body would be used to it ?

I do hope it is the finasteride and not balding being kicked into overdrive .

Ah did it happen to you when you increased the dose or when you first started taking finasteride?

I was using 0.25 ed for about five months. No sides and no shedding. Went up to 0.50 and all hell broke loose. Shedding and sides. I quit after 7 months of that.

If any shedding grows back regardless then the optimal strategy would be plowing on. Most guys seem to believe that the best strategy is stopping and I am uncertain. Sheds might quite often be benevolent and lead to improved outcomes. But for people with male pattern baldness, I have no knowledge about whether sheds grow back or not. Shedding might be associated with more severe male pattern baldness regardless of etiology. Desisting also implies that doing so stops the shed, which again, I don't think anyone knows. Telogen Effluvium itself might be highly correlated with male pattern baldness but most of the pictures I have seen have been of races not really susceptible to baldness anyway reinforcing the idea that essentially something akin to prolonged lack of nutrient intake is necessary. In the 70's there were many countries like Bangladesh where you saw pics of semi-balding children with extended stomaches but there doesn't seem to be many instances of such massive starving any longer. The other situation involved India and Pakistan so it was hard to get aid to Bangladesh. George Harrison tried but his concern ended up being more of a milestone rock concert and improving awareness than actually achieving money transfers in.

Yes google finasteride dose response
It is reverse asymptotic, inflecting at 0.2 mg
Someone who knows math and stats and puts it to good use in terms of analyzing male pattern baldness. Bayes' theorem seems to have many uses in terms of modeling baldness and providing advice that is binary similar to See/Don't See Doctor and finasteride/No finasteride as well. Given prior statistical data, which we often lack, we can make calculations related to how many people with Telogen Effluvium, also have male pattern baldness. But this would have to be limited to whites/Semites as another coefficient.

We can also set up a model of improvement of male pattern baldness hair loss say, with three states, none, moderate, heavy and use that with data related to finasteride and minoxidil and be able to more closely predict for guys who play the "guess if I am going bald" game. There would have to be structured ways to get follow-up data.

finasteride is not dose-dependent so based on that likely no
The sudden increase can cause Telogen Effluvium.
You’ve also posted that finasteride doesn’t cause sides and minoxidil doesn’t have an affect on collagen. Rightttttttt

Ah yes, "increasing" to ...... 1mg standard doctor recommended finasteride dose will cause your hair to suddenly rot out...

Is a high tide going to produce a wave that is exactly 12 feet tall? Could it happen? Sure. Can you say for sure until it’s upon you? No
