Wrinkles after ~7month use of Finasteride

Hi there,

For the last 7 months I've been using Finasteride. At first .25mg daily, the last 2 weeks or so .5mg daily. I only used this low dose because I was afraid of side effects. I upped the dose lately because 1) I thought I wasn't experiencing any sides and 2) I did not regain any hair, and thought upping the dose might change that. I did not lose any hair either, if I did it would have been a very small amount.

But then yesterday some guy pointed me at the fact I have lots of deep wrinkles when I pull my eyebrows up. I never really took note of that, because I never look at that stuff while looking in the mirror. So today I decided to see what he meant and holy crap! I'm now 21 years old and my dad who is 56 has less wrinkles than me! I then started to make some other facial expressions and I could also notice some small wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. Nothing bad there, but I wouldn't want to see them get any worse.

I went searching on the internet to see if Finasteride might cause this and found out it is able to do so. Therefore I've decided to quit this drug. At the moment I'm still good looking, and if the wrinkles do not go away I can't care too much. I absolutely don't want them to be on my head all the time though, and I do not want to see if that might happen if I go on with finasteride.

I do not know after how many months this started happening, as I only found out yesterday. Might have been right from the start, or just since the past few weeks, I don't know. I do know though that I did not have any wrinkles before I started using finasteride, so that can definately be called a side effect for me.

I find it too bad really, because my hair still looks strong and I'm afraid for what I might lose the next couple of weeks, but it's just not worth the risk of having a 50 year old face at my age.

Are there any people here that experienced the same? Did your face get better again after quitting finasteride?

I don't know where you did your research, but I have a feeling you may be misinformed. I'm unaware of any medical literature that links finasteride to wrinkles.

I think wrinkles are a more related side effect to minoxidil, which i see you're using.

Oh I'm sorry. My regimen is very outdated. I've used minoxidil less than a month and stopped like a month before I started using Finasteride. Was too much of a hassle for me. I didn't experience any sides while using minoxidil.

Now I know the general consensus over here is that the posts on propeciahelp are from scared and whining people, exaggerating every little pain they think they have, but I've never been able to think of a reason why they'd do that.

My situation now is bearable, I will not suffer mentally from it + if it's indeed caused by Finasteride there should be a chance things get better even. But seeing the wrinkles as a first sign of aging of the face, I do not want to test mother nature and see what she'll do with my face if I keep on bugging her with this drug.

I'll stick to Nizoral and I'll be using it 3/4 times a week instead of 2 times, and hope Finasteride didn't do too much for the prevention of my hairloss...

Sites like Propeciahelp.com almost made me abandon Finasteride altogether, but I decided to trust in published medical studies rather than unverified anecdotes from people on the internet. I suggest you do the same. Finasteride doesn't cause wrinkles.
