I am sick of people not being honest. I have not seen this girl in a long time, and given that she's one of my close friends, I told her about my struggle. EVERY TIME she sees me, it's the same generic bullshit - "your hair looks good!" BLAH BLAH F*CKING BLAH. It's like they know it's my insecurity and accommodate me accordingly. WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST BE HONEST?? You guys have seen my hair. 20% density MAX. A completely diffused rat's nest on the entire top.

I would rather have people be brutally honest than kiss my ***. It's like someone constantly telling a gluttonous fat person, "you look great, have you lost weight???" WTF is wrong with people. Be honest or say nothing!!

My humble opinion is that maybe she meant your hair looks good despite the reduced density...
I say that because I was told a similar thing in the past: "oh Roberto you lost a lot of hair. Yet you don't look bad at all". I am pretty sure they were sincere. I say they must be sincere because later in life no one said that anymore.

This is the second biggest thing that pisses me off. I suspect it's because most of us are used to seeing receding hairlines in men every day that many, especially women, don't realize that it's a gradual process and a NW2 is the start of it.

"Oh, you're not losing hair!"

When I first thought my hairline was receding a while back, I showed family members and they were like "No, it's fine!" or former co-workers I've seen regularly since quitting the job I worked at with them. Only one person was honest. She was like "Yeah, it does look like you have less hair than I remember." I went into where she works and the girl right beside her, who I'd known way longer, was all "You're going bald?" and gave me this squinting look "Ooookay"

It's clear as f*****g day.

What do you mean you had to ask people if you were thinning? I infer it does not run in your family?
I have a bald dad and almost bald grandma. I did not have to ask anyone what was happening to me ;)

Mom's dad is almost 70 - full head of hair.

My dad is almost 60 - full head of hair.

Maternal Great Grandfather was 92 - full head of hair minus some senescence induced thinning.

Only one of my great-uncles is NW7 and aside from him, the only other guy who became NW7 was my paternal grandfather. Very few of my other uncles ever went much past NW2 and none of them had diffuse thinning.

Well this confirms that the genetics of this sh*t is complex. If one believed in luck, one could say that hair-wise you weren't the luckiest grandchild. Like me, on the other hand: 12 cousins, one male pattern baldness. Guess who.

I agree with this. I think I remember seeing your hair OP and her comment would be something I may have said myself to you.

Bro, every time you use "diffused rats nest", I bust out laughing lol. The situation isn't funny, but your choice of words is.

I've stopped talking to people about my hair loss. There were quite a few people tracking that I was losing hair, but I recently moved out of that state and back home. I don't think many/any of the people back in my life now are tracking that I have male pattern baldness. I'm becoming a MASTER of the combover, so between that and wearing hats, I manage to keep it on the down low (unless everyone is laughing behind my back and I just don't realize it, but I don't think they are lol). I'm keeping this sh*t to myself from now on as much as I can. The times I've brought it up to other people in the past, I view as a colossal mistake. If people are not going through hair loss themselves, they do NOT understand. Period. There's no point to bringing it up but to reveal insecurity and draw attention to a flaw they might not have thought much about without you pointing it out to them

One hundred percent truth. The thing is, I literally brought this up to her ONCE, like 8 months ago. She asked why I wasn't dating and I threw in losing my hair along with gaining weight and other newly found insecurities. I said, "I don't feel like myself anymore and need to remember who I truly am". Just once and this was the first thing she mentioned last night. "awe, your hair looks good, so thick!!"... of course it's not, but combed forward and powdered with hair fibers.

Don't kick me in the balls over this but from the front view, your hair probably does look good. I'm sure it's noticeable when talking to you for a bit but initially, it may actually look good.

We discussed your possible BDD before, and 20% density? No.

It doesn't look great under bright lights from above the head camera angle, but otherwise it probably does look fine.

Buckthorn, I didn't notice diffuse thinners until I started losing hair. Plus, the hair fibers masked some of your hair loss.

Bringing up my hairloss to people was one of those mistakes I had to make in order to realize how bad of an idea it was, and that nothing good can come of it.

Now I know better, I'm making the proper adjustments in how I interact with people.

Consider yourself lucky, buckthorn, some of those comments, as h.l. rightly said, might be honest.

Always better than being constantly ridiculed for an incurable temple recession, don't you agree?

better than being constantly ridiculed? yes. No one would ever attempt to ridicule me period. If anyone were to ever call you out on your hair loss, there are a million appropriate responses that will shut them up. if you can't think of one, just walk away and tell them to f*ck off. I have enough bullsh*t in my everyday life. I don't have to tolerate humiliation or embarrassment over something I cannot control.

I am not certain I have BDD... What I have is a huge scar on the back of my head and pluggy looking transplants that are becoming more apparent as my diffused rat's nest spreads like a wild fire over a forest of decaying, wilting pine trees.

Yeah I wasn't certain either I just thought it was worth looking at.

Well we all have BDD to some extent, not just with baldness, but I think the baldness or receding/thinning affects further our perception of ourselves.
