Yeah basically, I can't part my hair down the middle. Rogaine is helping my fill out the back, but the very front where my widows peak is... not so much :(

The first one is me at no treatment...

ROGAINE USERS: have you experienced your part looking better after months of use? Tell me about it!
And do you think it's possible for me to get my hair looking this good?

you actually did well in front with rogaine i see an improvement.

I had improvement but its still not as dense in my front middle part.

You need an anti androgen either topically or orally to also help from further damage

Thank you! I couldn't tell if I had improved or not.
How long were you using Rogaine and what %?
I didn't know the hair loss would continue without a blocker! I thought Rogaine would take care of making my strands stronger? Can you elaborate on why DHT blocker is a necessity? Based on yr own experience

For whatever its worth, I think your hair looks nce and normal, especially the one at 27 days. Many many people, male and female, have hair with around that density. I think the example photo you posted is a girl with like super-density... if I saw that hair I think I'd actually take note of it and think, wow that's thick hair!

IF you have androgenic hair loss

that means your skin is sensitive to DHT OR your body is making too much DHT (this is why you have to see a DR)

Either way medication is needed in order to decrease the amount of DHT.

The DHT is what attacks the hair follicles and it miniaturizes the follicles and over time shrinks the hair and also slows down the growth phase...so this is the cause/effect of baldness over time.

Women rarely go bald but we can think dramatically over time especially around menopause or after menopause.

some women who are young get aggressive hair loss due to a syndrome PCOS which effects hormones in the body and you have other symptoms (that is what syndrome means in a way) You can google PCOS and see if that seems like something you might have but you will also want to speak to a Dr.

The DHT blocker that is best known for women is spironolactone and it lowers testosterone levels..Testosterone is what produces the DHT that attacks the hair...lower you T the DHT goes down (in theory)..The oral med is effective supposedly in 30% of women for hair regrowth and 30% of women for stopping/slowing the hair loss..so I think that means 40% chance it wont work...

The spironolactone can cause birth defects in male babies so it is important if you go on the medicine you do not get pregnant while on it and if you want to get pregnant check with your Gyno how long is safe to be off it before getting pregnant

The other caveat is it can mess with your period cycle (skip months or get period 2x a month) so it is usually paired with a birth control pill for comfort with this and to also eliminate the risk of accidental pregnancy..

The caveat with this is SOME birth control pills will INCREASE hair loss...SOme women never have hair loss until they are on birth control pills (if you are on them now this may be a trigger for you so check the type of hormones they are) OTHER birth control pills are actually GOOD for hair growth in some people..its just unpredictable to a degree...unfortunatly the ones that are GOOD for hair growth are also the higher risk birth control pills....I think it increase potentially dangerous side effects (blood clots, strokes) 3x more than other birth control....when you look at the studies its actually NOT a huge number (sounds like it but relatively speaking its not) but if you already have risk factors (family history, obesity, smoke) you have to discuss this with you GYNO.

I know that is A LOT of information to take in so sorry in advance.

There are topical anti DHT you can get depending where you live. I am on a topical spironolactone..I dont know how effective it is to be honest. I might be adding a topical finasteride which is another Anit DHT that mostly men take because I think its even more risky for birth defects (not 100% sure).

I am on 5% foam rogaine i just follow directions 1//2 cap at night
I have a topical anti DHT blend from my Dr but it works 'meh'.
I was also ferritin anemic and I have to take a lot of iron and have it checked--this helped my shedding.
I am on treatments since like October.
i have slowed down the loss and i have some regrowth but I am debating adding another topical and/or going on oral meds.

I am also following obsessively the research threads of the forum about Brotuz, histogen, folica, Tsugi--replicel these are all 'possible' treatments in trials at various stages.

You can also use hair fibers if you feel self conscious Topik and I think other one is derma blend...

Also a lot of people use Keto shampoo...you can get a persripition strength at 2% or over counter at 1% nizoral..regenepur is the one i use I like it just makes my hair a bit fluffier at the root so less obvious.

Wow I want to thank you for the time you've put into educating me better than my current doctor probably ever will! ..I appreciate you hairblues.
My doctor said my testosterone levels are fine, and my thyroid is fine and "everything" is fine.
She said it was just the hereditary hair loss...
So do you think I still need to worry topical or oral blockers?
And I hope you're having progress on your end! The best thing is, that you're fighting it.
When my sister completely gave up and is just concealing with toppik... I'm going to screenshot your reply and shed some light

Excuse my ignorance, I'm still learning about this condition/ treatment

hereditary hair loss is hair that is sensitive to DHT..and only way we really know to fight hair loss is to lower your testosterone which lowers your DHT and slows down or stops hair loss.
this is why men with male pattern baldness take Propecia...they wont give a young girl Propecia or dutasteride.
spironolactone is the most common.
Some of the higher risk birth control work in some people.

BUT this is not everyone it is not going to work in everyone we have two female in 20s who I think tried the horn medications but still lost hair..I am only on topical it does not seem to be working as much as I would like.

Do I
Need a prescription from my doctor to get a topical DHT blocker or can I order online?

I don't know I am getting mine from my Doctor.
Hopefully other people will tell how they go theres.

You have to be careful because I am much older than you so I am not going to have children at my age (45) so make sure to do some research maybe talk to your Doctor to make sure when you want to have children it is not going to be an issue--IF you are taking finasteride or spironolactone and get pregnant it can be very damaging to male children...so even though these are topical alway a chance it can go systemic...and I know with spironolactone you just have to be off of it for a certain amount of time before getting pregnant..finasteride I dont know how long you have to be off of it for that to not happen. I dont know if it does long term damage to perspective Mothers...
Check with a Doctor or do some research.
It is topical but topical always a chance of systemic absorption.

I started with pretty much what your baseline is and I got the same results as the second picture after 4 months, you should be happy that these are your gains after only 27 days, I think with tie you'll regrow more since you're nicely responding. try adding nizoral or keto shampoo, it helped me. I do 5% minoxidil twice daily and I don't know if the front part of my hair will ever completely fill in and the scalp will stop showing through but any result is better than no result you know

Thanks for the encouragement :)
I heard using nizoral can cause hair shed when using. Has it happened to you? Did you notice more loss/ irritation?

It didn't cause me any abnormal shedding, and it helped my scalp as it gets irritated from Minoxidil and I had some dandruff so now I have a healthy clean non itchy scalp

Did any of you experience crazy shedding once you started minoxidil. I'm 2.5 weeks in and hair is flying off my head!!! I know I have read that shedding is quite common and can also be a good sign of regrowth. However, I am pulling out so many hairs after brushing. Even running my fingers through my hair I get 8-10 strands and still more falls out during the day. Looking around 200 plus.

Really impressive results in a very short time! Did you get a major shed after using minoxidil in the beginning?
