I would do a 5% minoxidil and finasteride, If I were you.
A 10% is too strong.

But losing hair at the age of 17 sucks... :(
I know. It has crushed my self esteem. I keep my hair long so as to disguise the thinning and recession

No worries mate... finasteride and minoxidil will help you a lot :). I have seen much much worse cases than you on this forum coming back to Norwood 0 or Norwood 1.

Nothing is lost for you :) Just take the meds and start saving 5000 usd for a decent hair transplant in Turkey :)

Hair transplants are pretty cheap in india. The guy I visited does 2800 grafts for about 2500 usd

If it were me id see how the 5% minoxidil does if it doesn't work good enough then maybe go to 10%. But seriously consider using the propecia alone for 3-6 months, that way You'll know what is working. Propecia should stop any further loss and you might get away w/out having to use minoxidil at all. Just my thoughts though

My doctor recommended the use of minoxidil so as to strengthen the hair that have miniaturized and he says that we still caught it early

I'm in the same boat. I'm 17 and my hair loss has progressed farther than yours though I was able to combat it quite early and the results look promising! I started minoxidil first, about 6 months before I decided to take finasteride. Though if I had to choose again I would totally skip minoxidil and go straight to finasteride as minoxidil can be messy and annoying to apply. I've yet to have any side effects from finasteride and I've been using it for nearly 5 months! Consider your options but I would recommend finasteride.

If you're interested, I posted a thread about my progress here https://www.hairlosstalk.com/intera...d-finasteride-w-pictures.101149/#post-1369052

my dr did too, and thats fine. I was just letting you know what i did. And since your new to all this i figured id try to give some advice. If you can get away w/out having to use minoxidil your life will be easier and in the long run your hair will be better off for it. The post above this one says the same. Also if you ever want to quite minoxidil you'll shed like crazy even on finasteride, as they work totally different. I feel rogaine is a complementary treatment and finasteride is the real workhorse. Just trying to help

I've started finasteride and it's been a week. When will I start seeing results?

And in the meantime I'll be thinning like normal?
No, you'll probably start shedding in the next few weeks, it'll actually seem like your hair loss will have accelerated. Don't quit during the shedding phase. Ride it out with hats and hair fibres if the thinning gets bad.

i didnt shed from finasteride. minoxidil caused shed. My hair got healthier fast on finasteride like 1 month it just looked "Better" No regrowth or anything just kinda fuller/ healthier Looking. Try not to even think about it. Its going to be subtle improvement especially at first and you should really notice something anywhere from 3- 6 months. Most improvement between year 1 and 2...Yeah hair changes/Grows at a snails pace lol

It is difficult not to think about it honestly. Balding at this age is difficult. But I'm trying my best. It feels good that I am taking action

some people do shed from finasteride obviously... Any change really can cause a shed. (extreme Stress, medication, physical injury ) but i don't think shedding from finasteride is anywhere near as common as minoxidil. minoxidil your all but guaranteed a shed w/ finasteride it seems some do some dont. And some do early on or even 3- 6 months after starting treatment. I think its a bit of luck sometimes w/ regards to finasteride shed

Still losing hair but I have noticed lesser hair falling. Sometimes hair feel fuller to me. Started applying minoxidil on temples too

I have been shedding a lot of thin hair. Is that a good sign?
