Hi guys,

I'm 52 and bald, my father and grandfather bald and my sons mothers father bald. Recently noticed the crown of my son thinning already which surprised me cause he has had a good head of hair compared to me at his age. Mine was full but def on the thin side, his is thicker for sure but his crown is starting to thin.

I am going to take him to a dermatologist to ask some questions but looking for some guidance. I know there are so many options compared to 35 years ago so I was curious what many of you thought. Minoxidil, Propecia, and shampoos and /or natural supplements, etc, etc. Basically looking for guidance for him before we head to the doctor to have the discussion and also some things he can do w/out a doctor.

Looking to grow back hair and stop the hair loss in it's tracks

His frontal hairline is solid and it is just the crown. I tried to upload pics but it says files are too large????

- thank you in advance for your help

I had the same issue but at 24. Rogaine works really well in the crown so I would go with that first.

listen dude. this is going to be impossible without the use of estradiol injections. save your son the time and give him reasonable expectations. with the genetics that you provided him, these are his options:

- let nature take its course
- accept fighting for shitty guy hair utilizing a normalfag regimen (fina/dutas & minoxidil)
- reverse balding in a satisfying way by accepting infertility and injecting e2

the absolute best option for the culture of his generation is the third.

If you're already noticing loss at 17, he has lost over 50% of density at his crown, his hair loss probably started years ago. He has very aggressive hair loss. Dutasteride and oral minoxidil when he is 18 might help, but I think he might still lose hair on these drugs.

Just get him on propecia if he's willing to take it.

It should halt his hair loss for a long time and see him through his 20s at least. A man balding in his 30s isn't too out there.

your username is reckless yet you're suggesting an incredibly mild regimen with little risk and little reward to be found. change your username to pussy boy.

I doubt finasteride alone will halt it. I have mild loss and still lost some ground on finasteride over the years. He needs dutasteride at the minimum and a growth stimulant like oral minoxidil.

It greatly slows it down, maybe not stops it completely. Its better than nothing, maybe dutasteride is an option. Minoxidil did nothing for me apart from making my body hair thicker, not to mention it makes your already thin hair look worse whole it's on.

I'd never bother with topical minoxidil. If I ever need it, I will take oral. I can imagine that it just makes your hair look greasy and thin, apparently the foam is better but expensive.

I quit all topicals recently. Despite washing the hair with shampoo in the morning. The minoxidil and finasteride changed the hair texture. It soaks into the hair and change the look and feel of the hair. Now I only pop finasteride and min. I also hated the nightly routine of applying. And u gotta wait for it to dry at least 2 hours before u can go to bed. This would suck *** and be embarrasing if u were in a relationship lol. Popping pills and nobody will know your little secret.

Say if you get growth with oral minoxidil and are on finasteride at the same time. If you then stop the minoxidil will the finasteride maintain the new growth or will it fall out?

Thats hard to know. The secret is to never quit oral min. Same way as never to quit oral finasteride.
