I wonder if this is normal, and I would be most grateful if dutasteride users comment...

For the first two weeks there was nothing and now into the third weekcoming up to the 1 month mark I am seeing hair shedding :( , I dont know if this is normal. Although I was losing ground with Propecia, albeit slowly, With dutasteride ,the hair is falling out a bit faster... is this normal, is shedding meant to start this soon?

Please comment and when does dutasteride actually kick in?

Hi Dani - how's it going,

Like you I started on dutasteride but noticed intense shedding even in the first couple of weeks, particularly at the temples. I know people will argue that a few weeks is not long enough to assess results, but I've seen some stories on here where people have only experienced shedding.

I may be tempted to give it another go but for now I'm on finasteride and herbal supplements.

Cheers!

Hi Berbs,

Yeh- its going okayish, Ive lost quite a bit starting from the third week onwards. But I am going to stick it out. However, is that normal- seeign that much of a shed in just three weeks?

Are you doing Saw Palmetto?

dani, are you on real or generic dutasteride? also, did you completely drop finasteride or are you using both now?

I just started dutasteride too, im on my second week or so. I think i maybe starting to shed as well. I think it may be normal to see shedding up until 6 or 8 weeks or so, from what i read its normal, sucks but common.

Im gonna stick it out as well

talks about dutasteride shedding, this might put your mind at ease a bit...I shed in the first cuple months with finasteride, it was bad but came back strong, very strong.. Im hoping its the same with dutasteride, i just hate the initial sheds, but its worth it in the end

Hi Dogs3,

Thanks for replying....

I was on propecia and minoxidil for 30 months, lots of shedding initially but good results gradually. Over the course of the 30 months, near the last 1/3rd noticed that the hair density was going down gradually and growth was very slow. Lost quite a bit during that time IMO.

So I made the switch (March '08) directly from Propecia to dutasteride-generic- its the real stuff though. Coming upto 1 month mark in 5 days and the shedding happens in bits and pieces, more than I was gettnig with propecia. Im gona stick it out. Im hoping to add to my regimen anyhow with 5% spironolactone cream. Ive read that this has some benefits.
