I have been on Propecia for 9 months now. I looked at my photos from my Birthday in June and there is plenty of hair at the front and still quite thick. Now over the last 4 to 6 weeks I have lost 30%+ of my hair to the front of my head. I went from being able to hide the baldness to now dialy comments "dude your going bald really quick"

When people shed is it normal to loose that much hair?

I have since started taking minoxidil as of last week to hopefully help this out.

If in 6 months my hair is not better then it is now I am shaving the f****r.

Also would like to point out to you guys I have had NO improvements since being on Propecia and it has not even halted my hair loss. Might of slowed it down but still slowly been thinning/falling out.

I have my parents, I can't believe at 21 I have to go threw this sh*t !

Yes, and its also normal to freak out and say you've lost X percent of your hair when in reality you've lost about 5% of your density, at the most. I freaked out, threatened to sue Merck for false advertising, and told everyone I had lost 50% of my density during my shed. Its human nature. Your brain magnifies everything. You said you have photos of yourself from before, can you post some of yourself now?

I have since started taking minoxidil as of last week to hopefully help this out.
LOL ... again human nature. Bad move. Very bad move. minoxidil not only induces a shed that is going to make your current shed even worse, but the LAST thing you want to do is modify your regimen when you haven't even given the current one enough time to work.

I would suggest stopping Rogaine immediately. You aren't going to "fix" the Propecia shed by starting Rogaine. These treatments don't work that way. The shedding cycles continue for some guys for the full 12 months. I had shedding cycles well past month 11. Deal with it dude.

Some good news: You are not *losing* hair right now. Propecia is making the cycles restart all at the same time, so they're all going dormant. they WILL come back. They WILL grow in again. If you stay consistent and stay the course...

If in 6 months my hair is not better then it is now I am shaving the f****r.
If you can hang on for another 6 months without F'ing with your regimen, then you will have given Propecia 15 months, and that is a solid timeframe to see if it works for you. I would STRONGLY suggest that you post your before and after photos here though. I don't care what you think you see, your brain will screw with you. Prove me wrong and show me how much worse it has gotten okay? Im playing devil's advocate here for a reason. I'll explain it after you post the pictures.

As you can see from the below my front line is pretty much how it should be. I always have had a big forhead and keeping the curly hair long helps hide that. I went on Propecia in Jan because the crown of my head was starting to bald. All my relatives mentioned it at the christmas dinner that had not seen me for ages. My hope was to take propecia and HALT the hair loss and I would of been happy.

See current images just taken. Sorry been at the gym and was wearing a hat so hair is all sweaty and gross.

on hair oct 05 you can see the temples go back a little more. The important thing to see is that the hairs are only about 2cm long. A lot more spread out and thinner compared to what it was two months ago.

Two months ago those small hairs in that area were as long as all the surround and twice as many if not more.

same deal messmorph...hoping propecia works eventually and this "regrowth" after a shed is true. I am on month 11 right now and have been shedding since month 9.

Goodluck Short shanks its scary stuff hey. Let me know how you go.

I am still 50 / 50 if I should hit the minoxidil or not. I figure worse case scenario it could cause a small shed then atleast some good chance for growth after that. I am still waiting for HairLossTalk.com to reply !

I'm in the same spot.

Same situation with massive shedding at month six and have been on the stuff for about 10 months. It's no exaggeration to say that I've lost about 30%+ in the frontal region and vertex. I really hope that regrowth kicks in otherwise I'm screwed. Have read reports about visible regrowth at month 14 and over but i don't know what to believe anymore. The lack of response from HairLossTalk.com isn't making it any better. Any other posters out there who had the same situation? Please reply, we'd be greatful.

Again...Why isn't HairLossTalk.com responding?

Hey guys its been two months since those pictures taken. Hair has improved heaps since then thank GOD.

I did not take HairLossTalk.com's advise and stuck with using the minoxidil. As you can see from those pics my hair is very long so I have two use 2ml morning and night. I am finally seeing some results. If its from the minoxidil or the propecia nobody knows. Since using minoxidil heaps of little white hairs have been showing up and some of them just now are starting to transform from white to light brown. Also I feel like the hair has thickened up.

However this could all be psycological haha. I am going to wait till end of Januray and then will post some pictures up here. I want to wait 3 months before taking more pictures.

Someone post in here in a months time and remind me. If my hair is good might forget to check the website haha

hey messmorph thanks for the update - have to say I was a bit worried when I read your post as Im just completing my first month on propecia and have started shedding more hair already - good to hear you have made decent progress since then

It would be good if guys who posted those shedding horror stories some months back would actually return to the boards with a progress update like this.

I'm your same age and I have a similar hairline, although recently I've been the victim of diffuse thinning throughout the top.

Anyways, how have your sides been on finasteride?

For the couple of people who mentioned if Propecia made my shed worse. Well who knows... I could be completly bald or a lot balder if it wasn't for the propecia. So maybe it has worked. Maybe it has made things worse.

If I could jump back a year to when I was starting my hairloss regime. I would added minoxidil to help with the Propecia. Even know that I am seein decent growth and thickening it could be the propecia just kicking in after the shed or the minoxidil. However I feel 10x better taking the minoxidil and propecia.

I have had 0 side effects from both.

Remember take minoxidil and PROPECIA :)

Hey messmorph....

We were in a pretty similar situation a few months back...with the shedding and no visible regrowth. But you chose to add minoxidil two months ago despite HairLossTalk.com advice...was it worth it? Did you experience a second shed? I followed your example and added minoxidil a week ago.
