Johnson, what do your think you final Norwood might be? Like when you hit 50.
This is very similar to how my dads is:

And if I can be late 50s with that I would be very happy.

The rate of hair loss is just so hard to predict - some men lose it all in 2 years - and some lose it very slowly and are still norwood 4s in their 50s.

This frightening thought is always on my mind. At any time I could take a turn and lose a Norwood in like half a year.

My fringe island area is most vulnerable.

Not me. I could not live with the much loss knowing I could improve it. Johnson, I really admire you in certain ways. It does not take too much to make you happy. You are living your life on your own terms and helping less fortunate people out at the same time. You have no issues living in very simple housing with very few perks. I guess I spoiled myself too much all these years and could not rough it out like you do. If I don't have air conditioner and its hot, I cannot function. I am sure you can.

Hey, don't put me on a pedestal - I'm not a saint!

I do prefer simple living, but i'd struggle without wifi and books out here.

This place would be heaven if I had a partner here and maybe three or four other English speakers for company.

As for the hair - it does bother me otherwise I wouldn't be on here. I just think it bothers me a lot less then some other posters. I think that the hair example I posted above is quite a decent head of hair to have in your late 50s. Perhaps its because I've seen so many bald twenty and thirtysomethings that I begin to see anyone with some hair at 50 and 60 as lucky.

I will be honest and say that I will NOT be satisfied with that man's hair at 50-something. You can tell that the hair that remains is still damaged by androgens. This here is James Brolin, in his 70s. This should be the rule, not the exception.

For me, I would pick the hair transplant but the thought of shaving my head and dealing with the aftermath for a year is what puts me off. However, I really don't need to shave my whole head as I just need my hairline to be lowered so I could just get the back shaved and wear it long on the top and comb over the front. If I could take about 3 months off of work, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I had a FUE done this year at the front hairline. I only had to have the donor area shaved, not recipient - which helped. It was obviously noticeable for a month as the grafts were still in place; then the grafts fell out of my hair over the 5th week. By the beginning of the 6th week, I looked like I did before I had the procedure with the only evidence being a kind of mild sunburn appearance over the recipient area - which was only noticeable close-up. By the beginning of the 3rd month, you wouldn't know if I had a procedure or not (the "sunburn" had faded away).

The main reason I don't do it is because the people I work with told me I don't need one. They say I have good hair for my age. Unfortunately, I don't think getting one would make a huge impact on my appearance really. It would to me maybe but I don't know for sure. I would tell anyone that asks. But I would not volunteer it.

What did Dr Grecco or other Doctors think?

Ten grand to restore hair pays back 100 fold

I was reading this blurb from a famous actress in her 70s who said plastic surgery gave her an additional decade for her career--and I think the same can be said for hair transplant.
No shame in doing what you need to do to make yourself viable longer.

we were discussing FUE recently...(not for me but one of the guys was discussing pros/cons) how do you feel with the donor sites..do you think they are healing well? No white dots? Cant remember the context of how this came up.

Healing well and no white dots that I can see. I had my FUE done in early February this year, so I'm approaching the 5 month mark. The "sunburn" on the scalp was the only sign that something was different. That fully disappeared after 2 months, though having read other accounts of FUE procedures, it can take longer to disappear. However, with long enough native hair at the front, you can hide away / obscure this to a certain extent - it just depends how much native hair you have there, and how long it is. The recipient hair didn't show up until about 3 to 4 months after the procedure. And when it did show, it was quite thin. However, it's expected to thicken up over the coming months. I've been taking finasteride since January this year (so not too long before the procedure). Overall, I'd say it's been a good result. This was done in Thailand (Absolute Hair Clinic, Bangkok) - 2000 grafts, about £4000.
