After how much hair loss would you buzz/shave your head?

I am wondering what level of hair loss would cause you to just throw the towel in and buzz short/shave your head. I am around a Norwood 2 and I became so fed up with what my hair looked like that I buzzed it to grade 1. I have kept it on grade 1 or 2 ever since. I am now considering buzzing it to a grade 0 and then shaving it off completely some time after that. After how much hair loss would you decide to buzz/shave for good? What level on the Norwood scale? Maybe you already do buzz/shave it? Or would you have a hair transplant/system instead?

I love the feel of a buzz so if one of the following occurs.

-I start to thin at the crown (Toppik and that stuff, no thanks!)
-I can now longer pull off spiking it up at the front.
-If I get to beyond Norwood 3
-Hair generally thins all over
-Hair at the centre of the hairline starts to thin. (I'm not one for growing it long and covering it up)


Hair system, absolutely not. Transplant probably not (Unless the technique improved and cost lowered, I may just about at least consider it).

Honestly, I'd only buzz my head at NW4+ territory, and even then only after exhausting every treatment. And being denied a hair transplant or something.

I'm fighting with all I've got to keep my hair.

Nothing against buzz cuts - if I had a smallish/nicely shaped head, balding wouldn't be so scary to me because I'd definitely buzz it. Unfortunately, I have quite a large head that looks rather "long" if there's no hair to frame it, so I'd look pretty terrible without hair. Jason Statham I am not.

Pretty similar, if i could not maintain a NW4 on the big 3 i'd buzz it and accepted that i'm to join the bald crew.

I'm a thick NW3'ish and I am somwhere between a buzzcut and a Caesar. Very short.

I just bought a pair of clippers last week to keep it that short every two weeks.

In my opinion the "I admit I am balding" buzzcut is the way to go. So many people look terrible with hair cuts that TRY to disguise hair loss.

It depends on what order you lose your hair in. My hairline isn't a NW3 yet, but because of crown thinning it still doesn't look good grown out unless I use toppik/nanogen

Jason Statham has a smallish head?? To me he seems pretty high-skulled (similar to my head shape actually).

he looks fine bald though. One of the few lucky ones alongside Bruce Willis who don't need a lot of hair.

Agreed. And I have no problems with my own head shape, either. I don't think a smallish head is that important.

Yeah, Statham actually might have a large head but he's a handsome dude. If he had hair he'd probably be getting a lot more work in Hollywood other than just the "badass" roles that he seems to get.

IMO small heads look better shaved/receded because there is less glaring shiny baldness to look at.

Simon Pegg is a true (and rare in Hollywood) NW3/3.5 and looks fine with it because he has a pretty small head.

But somebody like Tom Hanks, with a melon head (like me) looks pretty bad with similar hair loss

Tom Hanks looks all right, plus i'm pretty sure that he has had a transplant.
