No, you're not too old. The potential amount of hair regrown, if you respond, may not be as much as a younger person because I assume a lot of your loss is not recent. Then again, it's possible you might respond well, generally.
Bite the bullet and see a dermatologist specializing in hairloss. Note that I said dermatologist (M.D.), not "trichologist," nor a commercial hairloss outfit. When you walk out of his/her office you'll feel a lot better that you've sought an expert's advice. There's a lot to be gained by your own internet research...but also an equal amount of BS to avoid. Distinguishing between the two can be difficult in the beginning.
