Today i just took my first finasteride pill (1/4th fincar). It feels good to know that I am doing pretty much all i can to stop or slow down my male pattern baldness.

I am going to ride it out for atleast one year regardless of the sides(if any) and the shedding(if any). Well unless the side effects get to severe then i would have to stop.

And then the journey beings for life.... I will update my progress every week or so... until then, doing all i can.

Re: And so it begins...(8 days on finasteride)

Figure I'd give a little 8 day update.

Takin 1/4 fincar. No side effects to reports so far. Semen Is fine, not watery. Sex Drive is just fine. Im having some of my best workouts in the gym the past week. Seem to have more energy and stamina. I usually workout around 4/5 times a week, so its a pretty big part of my life, and that is going well.

SO far, no side effects. I will keep posting.

Re: And so it begins...(3 week UPDATE)

Well its been 22 days on finasteride and so far, so good. However I believe I am starting to shed. I hope shedding this early into finasteride will mean sooner results. Getting more hair in the shower drain, probably around 50 of so. However, my hair density looks better then average, which is weird. No other sides to report. Workouts have still been good and erections are still solid as ever.

Did anyone else maybe start to shed around the 3 week mark or so? Just wondering.

Great. I look forward to your updates. Did you go with fincar over their generic propecia because its a little cheaper?

Re: And so it begins...(One Full Month In)

Well its been 31 days on finasteride and still having no sides, expect i seem to be shedding for the last week or so.

Although my hair still looks like same from day 1. I think it looks a little darker, because the hairs im sheddin are light blondish brown hairs. I think it is leaving the darker healthier hairs, so it appears darker. Just an assumption tho.

BTW im 23 and an nw2.

Re: And so it begins...(ONE MONTH UPDATE)

Looks like it´s working :)

Don´t worry about the shedding; for weak hair to grow strong, a new cell cycle has to start, and for that to happen, the telogen hairs have to be expelled. It will probably grow out again, much thicker than it used to be :)

Yeah please post some pics, I am pretty nervous about the sides and shedding, so I would like to see if it is that noticeable. It's good to hear you aren't experiencing any sides and are able to workout like normal. I was hoping to get back into the gym routine this semester.

I'll be starting my doses once I get back to school next weekend. I'll post some before pics in my thread at that time too.

Re: And so it begins...(1.5 MONTH UPDATE)

Well its been like 45 days or so on finasteride and everything seems to being going pretty well. My hair has seem to not be shedding as much, and the hairs that I am shedding are thin blonde hairs that i can tell are minituraized hairs. The last 2 days I wore a hat outside the entire day and did not have one hair inside my hat. That was nice to see. Also, in the shower I am seeing less hair fall out. Maybe round 20 or so.

Workouts are still going well, no other sides besides my hair becoming stronger and healthier. :)

Re: And so it begins...(1.5 month UPDATE)

I started finasteride on May 16, so just over three months. I've noticed the biggest thing finasteride does is control my itching on my scalp. After I take it in the morning the itching subsides totally until late at night (I have a fast metabolism and I theorize that finasteride burns up fast in my system).

Anyway, I have not noticed any improvement and shedding has not totally stopped although it seems that it has gotten better. For a while in month 2 I was shedding a lot of "little" hairs, both blonde and darker ones, but they were always shorter, and I've let my hair get a little long. I assume it had to do with the finasteride.

I've also noticed on my right temple I have a TON of tiny blonde hairs that have emerged. If they regrew I'd be extremely happy. My left temple, however, is still very thin like it wants to recede more and there are not nearly as many little blonde hairs starting on that side.

I am considering adding Kirkland minoxidil that I bought a few weeks ago.

Well its been a little over 2 months and all i have is good things to say about my situation.

I just got my haircut short, probably 2 inches on top and a #2 on the sides. I use to be able to see my scalp in the bathroom under light, and now i cannot see my scalp.

I hardly ever see any hair fallout, except for the couple in the shower. My hair has gotten darker and looks healthier. I am very pleased so far and i have gained a lot more confidence in my situation. Just goes to show that people can get results in 2 months or less. I just hope things continue to get better and better.

Still no sides.
