I’ve been on finasteride for 4 years. So not exactly a long time user.

My hair has stayed more or less the same. Possibly slightly thinned <10% but it’s very hard to tell as to be honest I can’t remember exactly how it looked 4 years ago.

Either way it’s a good drug and I certainly recommend it. I wish I could take minoxidil but since I have a super cuddly cat that often sleeps by my head I would be a nervous wreck using it.

For me it’s just finasteride and Nizoral
I’m on oral min my man you could give it a try

I recommended it too … As someone who had the psychosomatic sides initially I do think the finasteride sides are a thing of the mind for the majority of people … However I am not discrediting anyone who has had legit side effects

Always had a crappy hairline.

27 was someone first mentioned that my hairline was receding. I had recent shaved my head (I was going travelling) and obviously there was a slight bit of recession going on.

I wasn’t sure it was happening. I still had great density.

Over the next few years more people started making comments. I was probably a Norwood 2.5.

I got to 31 and even though my hairline has remained the same I could see what was happening. The top of my head was starting to thin. The texture on the top looked different. Matt compared to shiny like the rest.

At that point I jumped on Finasteride and have managed to hold on to a Norwood 2.5 with decent density at the front.

Was your hairloss aggressive from the get go? How old when started finasteride? I’m thinking of getting on finasteride just noticing some recession at 26.
Aggressive thinning since probably 19 first noticed a lot of pillow shedding in the dorms. This is first indication guys - check your white pillowcases! I started finasteride at about 32 when it came out.

I've been on the big three for the last 10.5 years. I was 30 years when I got on it and it probably helped me move up from a norwood 3 vertex to a norwood 2 overtime. I've had 2 consistent side effects over this period of time. Frequent urination (where I need to pee every 2-2.5 hours) and bags/ circles around both eyes. I have no idea and am frequently at a loss as to which one is responsible for the frequent urination since I started on all the big three at the same time. I attribute the latter to the Minoxidil as by all accounts most people notice issues with their eyes when they're on it. I also have a sleep condition (narcolepsy) where I barely maybe get 2-3 hours every night so I'm sure that plays a big factor as well.

Cost of doing business I guess... If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't hesitate for a minute... My ever going research into the frequent urination continues though. I've stopped taking finasteride exactly twice over the last 10 years (once straight for 5 months and another time for 3 months) all to no avail. I just saw a urologist recently and he had me go through a bunch of tests including a urine flow test where I peed into a digital cup for 10 days and my results were fine. He also said in no uncertain terms did he think the finasteride was the issue as it supposedly does the opposite in curbing frequent urination instead of causing it...so yeah!

Been on it since it was available - '97/98 1mg/ed and since about 2005 I've been on 1.25mg/ed (1/4 proscar). I started minoxidil about 10 years ago, and overall I held pretty much steady all those years with just an ever so slight, gradual thinning in the hairline but the crown was solid. Probably held a Norwood 2 or 2.5 up until about a year ago when I've lost more in the hairline and crown that I did in those 20+ years combined (which is why I'm back on HairLossTalk.com lol) so my guess is that I might be at the end of the line with finasteride efficacy after 22+ years.

These taken this morning straight out of bed highlight how after 4 years it seems to be doing well for my hairline but the crown has now started to show thinning moreso than before …

Ive ramped up my finasteride from 0.5mg daily to 1mg daily in a hope it works however everything I read or what people say sounds as though it won’t have much impact

I hadn't seen your post - but yep, almost the same experience. I first noticed at 21 ('91) and was sure I was going to lose it all by 25. Propecia was not cheap as you know and my GP wouldn't prescribe it, so I went to a hair transplant Doctor who was like the only one prescribing it at the time and he absolutely raked me over the coals. Like $100 bucks a month or so.

I wanted to know what is the one things that could decrease or prevent the absorption of finasteride in the body? because during the day, next to me I take a lot of different vitamins and plants for my hair, and I have a bowel movement 2 to 3 times a day

this is very important, thank you
