going on 7 months at dutasteride 1mg (0.5mg x 2) a day!!!
hair has improved in texture, itching has subsided by around 80%, so i hardly itch anymore, maybe ive gone through about 2/3 sheds, but i never really paid any attention and no one remarked about my hair thinning suddenly, so i guess it couldnt have been major. still loosing around 100 hairs a day as i have been for years. left temple has improved considerably, but right has a long way to go, im nw1 at left and 2 at right!! its cos male pattern baldness hit my right temple far worse than it did my left.
still improving! still got hopes! i was quite a bad diffuse thinner, but density is building up again!

i use nizoral occasionaly. i have put on some weight, both muscle (due to increased testosterone) and fat (prolly due tue estrogen or watever). but i was kinda very slim before, and now i have a decent sized chest and arm without even working out!! my physique looks better. i havent devloped gyno, thank God!

i use dr Reddys from united pharmacies! beware any import taxes!! lol! and i eat them last thing at night, 3/4 hours after a meal!

so in summary, i use just 1mg dutasteride and occasionaly nizoral!
pm if you got any questions!!

everysix - careful on the zinc supplementation. If you're already taking 200% multivitamin, you are already getting more than enough zinc. Zinc can be toxic to your system if you keep with the supplementation for too long of a period of time.

You should be taking no more than 40mg of zinc per day.

Thanks for your messages.

HAirlosstalk: I dont understand your insight about zinc. Do you mean zinc is more toxic when you are on dutas? thanks

is it good ?

Been on it for 1 year, and nothing has really changed. No improvement, maybe a little loss, but no noticeable side -effects

I've been on it for over a year, generic version. Must say its working well, minimal side effects. Less libido but function well.

11 months of Avodart. Major sheds at first, but everything is better now. Noticeable thickening in crown and healthier hair overall. I started with 10 days of 1.5 mg per day and then went to .5 mg per day.

14 months. My experience of this drug is described at (great) length in my story thread - just the last couple of posts should give you an idea of how I'm responding.

8+ months now and have lost alot of hair in front (diffuse). Everyone keeps telling me it's a shed and will come back...but an 8 month shed?

You are a very optimistic fella I'll give you that. But my hair is complete crap compared to 8 months ago. It has gotten very diffuse in front and the texture is much finer. I used to have a thick tuft of hair in front that I could style and cover the thinning behind it, but now the tuft is thinning! How can you be so sure things will get better for me?

I truly feel for you. The problem is, no one can say for certain. This is the killing thing about all this. It is a waiting game. And you might not like what you find out by the time you get to the end.

The only thing I can say -- and I tell myself this as well -- is that none of this is your fault. Speculating is just no good. Don't go back and say to yourself, "I should have not done this/I should have done this." This thinking is just no good. I read many posts here, and in an indirect way, it seems as though people are blaming themselves.

Have you consulted with your physician lately?

No. My physician is clueless about hair loss. Thanks for the kind words. I've been battling male pattern baldness for 10 years now and it's frustrating that I even haven't been able to stop it.

My routine is:

.5 mg of dutas once a day. 5% minoxidil once a day (although I recently switched to Xandrox 15 a week ago). Nizoral twice a week.

I was a previous finasteride user for 6 years. My thinning is frontal diffuse. I have thick hair on the sides and crown. I am wondering if people with my pattern do not respond well to internal 5ar inhibitors considering finasteride didn't stop my loss and dutasteride seems to be accelerating it. :(

I'm sorry but I am so sick of seeing posts like these. Have you even TRIED Propecia and/or Avodart or have you used the generic crap from some sketchy online distributor and base your experience on that?

I have used Avodart, Dutas and now Duprost I have seen no difference in the effect! and I will not pay the Avodart price no more!

JWM what is your scalp condition like?

I have used NOTHING but Merck brand Proscar and Propecia since day one.

Oni

My scalp condition is perfect. I have never had a dandruff problem or oily scalp ever. I could easily go days without showering and have no sebum/oil problems.

Don't know if it's important or not, but I have very few characteristics of a typical guy with male pattern baldness. I have zero, and I mean ZERO body hair (people think I shave my arms, legs and chest. I can go days without shaving my face) I have had maybe 2 pimples my whole life, and I've never had a flaky or problem scalp.

Also, for the first 3 months on dutasteride my hair looked great. It appeared thicker and I had ZERO fallout. After that it all went to hell, although the weird thing is that eventhough I was becoming more and more diffuse, my fallout was still practically nil. I could tug on my thin spots and no hairs would come out.

A theory of mine was that those first 3 months, my hair was looking good cuz DHT was knocked on its ***, but soon my body compensated for the reduction in DHT and then made my testosterone skyrocket which then may have been converted into something like the bad form of estrogen or some other nasty androgen or whatever. Not exactly rocket science, but a theory.
