Are certain types of hair more likely to go bald in the future?

Anybody have any observations? Anecdotal or using celebrities would be helpful. Specifically any patterns that could be noticed (Like hair type, color, thickness, etc).

Is having super thin hair as a kid and your entire life mean that I am fucked in the future? Or does this not affect anything

Any other early indicators that can be observed that usually mean somebody is going to go bald?

Someone like Josh Hartnett has always had really thin hair but doesn't look to be losing anything even in his 40s, which is interesting.

The best bet is to look at your relatives, on both your mom's and your dad's side.
It's not foolproof, but it's the best indicator.

If you care enough, an even better option is to do a 23andMe test.

All the men in your family matter. The more closely related to you they are, the more relevant it is to look at their hair loss pattern.

I would pay the most attention to my dad and my brothers, if I had brothers. Then, I'd pay attention to both of my grandfathers, equally. Then, men who are further removed.

I think you might be kinda true on the dad thing. When I got my haircut at the same place as my dad they mentioned how similar my hair was in the way it grew. My hairline is also identical to my dads I've observed. However, my hair texture and color resembles more on my moms side. I dunno if that correlates but my dad has great hair. Mothers side is a mixed bag but nothing super alarming (like aggressive early balding)

Well, if I were you I would be slightly concerned about hair loss, basically. If it's something that bothers you.

If it bothers you a lot, think about getting a 23andMe test.

Is that even accurate? I heard they aren't very good for predicting baldness. I have considered getting one just because I'm curious about my ancestry though

The tests are more accurate than any other method I can think of. Certainly more accurate than making personal guesses based on relatives.

They'll basically give you a bunch of probabilities, and I think the probabilities are good estimates of what will happen to you.

It is also possible to get a scalp biopsy, in which miniaturization and thinning can be detected. That way you would know if you have hair loss and in which pattern you are balding.

Transplants are simpler and look better when men have thicker hair. Density is also a good sign. But the only way to know for sure is studying your family's history and getting a scalp biopsy.

In my opinion the maternal side of the family is more important to know whether you will have any hair loss or not. It is suspected according to some studies that the mother's genes may be what determines whether your hair has any sensitivity to DHT or not, and the father determines the overall DHT levels and overall 5-alpha reductase activity. This could explain why guys such as Arnold Schwarzenegger never went bald despite having a bald dad and blasting steroids at a time when little was known about them. His hair has very little or no sensitivity to DHT. Whereas someone could have low DHT levels because of his paternal family, but moderate or severe DHT sensitivity from his mother's genetics. In this case he would have slower and milder hair loss than the men in his mother's side of the family.

I thought mother's side is what mattered. My dad has a full head of hair even old, my mother's side has baldness and I inherited it too ugh.

IMO people with higher scalp density and thicker scalp hair are less prone to develop common hair loss.

Then I'm a weird exception as I had unusually thick hair as a newborn and a lot of very thick hair as a teen (I'm a white dude who literally needed to use an afro pick) and I was a Norwood 6 by about 30 or so.

Did you shave your scalp in any time or very short hair?

Jesus dude. Who f*****g care ?! Nothing is 100 % sure. So what about if you go have " 10 % chances " of go bald and you bold bald anyway ?! It will hurt you less ?!
Besides is not that hard . Is like. If your mother and your father and your mother are white, and all your family from both sides are white , what were the chances that you were born asian !?
If you still didn't get it, more relatives you have with hair loss problems , like any other thing , and more closer to you in you family tree are they, greatest your chances to go bald .
But again, who f*****g care ! There is nothing you can do , except for expect to happen and when it does , do a treatment if you don't want to go bald .
Even by answering your question I am feeling I'm wasting my time .
