oh great it's another episode of vegans lecturing us on how bad mother nature is because it designed humans along with numerous other animals to eat meat
I can find more concerning and relevant reasons for self-guilt, like hair-loss!

PTBA,

There is always the risk of misinterpreting people's comments if you ignore contexts and truncate their speeches, which is what you have done.

My post was clearly discussing health aspects. The thread was clearly discussing health aspects.

I normally like your post. But what you did here is that you read one sentence you didn't like, perseverated, and ignored context.

You should never ignore context.

I understand what you mean with "general", but on the other hand you also understand that I was not discussing Jainism or Judaism or Hinduism. Your extrapolation was partial and arbitrary, to ethics and environment. I'm sure that in spite of your stubbornness you understand that I was not referring to every argument for vegetarianism ever made.
"In general" means all major factors. This includes religion, due to it being a major factor in many people's decision. You clearly don't comprehend the definition of the word "general". If I were to say " In general, I consider real estate to be a bad investment." Then I go on to talk about how you might have frequent vacancies in the house you are renting out. I may not have acknowledged other factors of investing in real estate, such as low depreciation, tangibility, potential for speedy liquidation, etc. But I was still disparaging real estate as a whole by saying "In general, I consider real estate to be a bad investment". You either said something incredibly stupid, or you incorrectly worded your statement.

Who is lecturing? This conversation began with David disparaging people who follow a certain lifestyle.

I understand the meaning of the word general.

If you wrote something on real estate, I would read your entire post to try and gauge your point, to see where you were coming from. I think it's important to understand people's positions and motivations.

I generally have no interest for dissecting individual sentences in isolation, which often lose their meaning in the absence of context.

No, the statement "In general, I consider real estate to be a bad investment." means that real estate, as a whole, is a bad investment. That statement means all of real estate. If I was speaking to a specific factor of real estate, I would have said "I consider [insert factor] to hurt the viability of real estate as an investment.". Generalizations reflect the immaturity and juvenille attitude of the person stating them.

I was obviously discussing the health aspects of vegetarianism.

And to reiterate, the health-based arguments for vegetarianism are generally quite bad.

Anyone who sees your original post knows that it was quite the contrary. To say otherwise is disingenuous.

I.D.,

I'm sorry that I've engaged with PTBA and thus co-derailed your thread. I should have ignored him and walked away, and that error is on me.
I'm sorry that you made a gross and unsubstansiated insult towards people who follow a certain lifestyle. The error is on you.

Apology accepted, my friend. :)

I've little doubt that you two intelligent gentlemen will reconcile in the ensuing days.
