Avodart shed?!?

I was on finasteride for 2 years. 1 mg every day. I used to shed every summer but this summer it was too much. everytime i washed i'd clog the drain and i'd have to clear it quite a few times in between just one wash. Freaked me out so i started Avodart. I took 1.5 mg avodart the first three days, then switched to 0.5 mg avodart every other day with finasteride 1 mg on the off days.

Its been 3 weeks so far on avodart EOD , and today when i washed, i had to clear the drain 4 Freakin times!!! clumps of hair!! I'm a diffuse thinner with no bald spot as such but this shedding is screwing up my hair real bad, i cant style it and short hair doesnt suit me one bit, nor would a buzz.

i'm just wondering if avodart can cause a shed this early or if its just my male pattern baldness getting worse. If this continues a day or two more i doubt anything is gonna help.

I have actually noticed the sheds tend to be a bit more severe with dutasteride. I have and am experiencing the same thing. I was on finasteride for several years and really didn't notice many sheds. However, This is the first summer on dutasteride and certainly in the last several weeks, its been awful. Despite these sheds, I feel that dutasteride has thickined my hair up really well.

yeah but is a shed possible within 3 weeks of dutasteride? 0.5 mg every other day? thought it'd take a bit longer to build up in the system and have any effect to cause a shed...

i've never shed this much in my life, i have to remove clumps of hair from the drain with every wash. Worst bit is, most of the hair i'm losing is long thick hair.. I wash, the drain gets clogged, i unclog, the water level drops, and i see nothing but hair AGAIN, i unclog, continue washing hair, and it just keeps continuing!!

I started off slowly w/ dutasteride - 2x per week for several months , then upped it to 3x per week. I stayed on 1mg finasteride on my off dutasteride days.

I also used tricomin therapy spray daily.

No dutasteride sheds for me.

nah dht levels are drastically lowered within hours of taking the pill. could most definately be affected 3 weeks in.


lower the dosage, the maybe build it up slowly later if you need to. i doubt you'll need to though.

Timi, often see your posts saying dutasteride is no good.

First time i've seen pics...why did you start meds, your hair looked fine in the first pic...its been decimated in 6 months.

Must be more at work here than plain old DHT.

Have you had a blood/sliva test to check your testosterone/DHT levels?

Which dutasteride are you on? assume one of the generics?

I'm on Dutas 2 weeks now and loss continues but did not expect a change for a few weeks yet, cannot tell yet if I may shed or not as loss has been rapid for me too in last 6 months on finasteride. No sides tho which is good as I suffered on finasteride.

the first pic on your last post is from 12 years ago,am i right in thinking that propecia regrew a lot of your hair then maintained it until you got on avodart

i will never understand why people change over to dutasteride if proscar or propecia is working, if it aint broke dont fix it. some people get greedy and feel they want even more regrowth with dutasteride but that clearly doesn't work for a lot of people. in your case its def clear that dht was not the problem in your hair loss because i cant see how it could get worse with even less dht on dutasteride. maybe dutasteride raised your test levels to high in your scalp and in your case your follicles were to sensitive. sometimes in the case of drugs less is more.

Timi have you tried Revivogen or Fluridil? They are topical anti-androgens which means they will protect your hair from T and DHT.
