I think this is a lot to do with medications.

We are so heavily medicating people from a very young age in at least this country (i dont know of elsewhere).

I really don't like how frequently powerful mind-altering meds are given to children(and adults) in the US. If I was in the US as a child, they would have surely prescribed me anti-ADHD meds given that I was an extremely active child and could never concentrate in my classes. I am glad that wasn't the case. I know many college kids who are taking Adderall so that they focus and study hard. They say that as other kids are taking it, they will be at a disadvantage if they don't take it. They treat Adderall as some vitamin pill. A friend of mine used to take Adderall so that he can concentrate at his work!
