Wow, that represents a significant change in your thinking.

It does? I still have every intention of working out but I didn't know I expressed much fondness for the gym itself. I don't talk to others much during the actual work out, at home it's much nicer putting something on the TV rather than clicking through my phone for my program or whatever I'm listening to. Little things.

The only possible issue is motivation, if I feel I'm not getting into my work outs in the spare room then I'll renew.

I thought you were going very regularly a few months ago, 4+ times a week, and loving it.

It takes a lot of money to buy all that equipment, and the space could be used for other things. You are unlikely to be able to reproduce all those opportunities at home.

Ah no, I still am going to the gym 4 times a week, and then 1 or 2 work outs at home, that's what I meant. Still loving working out but the process of going to the gym, although not a big deal, is not preferred to being at home.

Maybe it is a bit optimistic to think I can do it all at home, but I can do a considerable range of upper body workouts at least, today I did several separate exercises which took over an hour, using just dumb bells and a bench. It's just things like leg presses and chest presses which make up a big expense, but I still feel like these can be replicated (possibly dangerously?).

Looks ridiculous but with a squat rack and some pins for safety (less than a few hundred dollars), this isn't far fetched.

A lot of cable movements, rows, lat pulldowns, can be done all with one relatively cheap machine (again, a few hundred dollars).

But when I say I've built up some ways of exercising at home, I've barely even been trying to, I haven't invested anything yet at all, so I think considering I can do a few full workouts without really pumping much money, 500 quid or so would go a long way.

@h.l. I worry I'm going to suffer a broken spine just looking at that photo.

Re: cable movements, I've never been a fan, I couldn't see what the benefit was, and it's too easy to cheat, you have to remember a ton of stuff.

Ironically that guys form is a lot less spine breaking than the more modern safety smith press ones I'm seeing when I google it.

Cable movements, it's simple, don't cheat! It took me some time to appreciate them, and while still not a huge part of my workouts and I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan or anything, I've come to appreciate they can isolate muscles that are hard to target (eg obliques) if you really focus.

I'd say have a day where 70% of your workout is cables, once a week, and if you still haven't felt a benefit after 3/4 weeks, then you can disregard them. I just decided to really focus on them for a few weeks, and haven't regretted it, my movements are more fluid and controlled with targeted tension, when I didn't know what I was meant to be doing or focusing on when I just did them here and there.
