Not a bodybuilder either, but an avid gym-goer...

I've not noticed any difference since starting finasteride 3 odd months ago.

Im a hardcore trainner as well and since I started finasteride 4 years ago, ive discovered I pretty much have to work out twice as hard to keep the fat off as I used too. Also twice as hard as someone who is not on finasteride. And since being on finasteride ive gained very little muscle mass :(

you sure you're not just getting older metalheadude? haha...

Your problems can only be put down to one of two things really as far as i can see - either your testosterone production has been reduced by finasteride (unusual - from the few things I've read on the issue it seems test is usually boosted), or your testosterone production is still fine but the excess from reduced DHT is converting to oestrogen, encouraging fat deposition and counteracting all your efforts to grow muscle.

I think you could probably benefit hugely from some form of light oestrogen inhibition. At the lower end of the scale you might want to try resveratrol which in addition to it's other health benefits also has a fairly good effect at reducing oestrogen levels, and at the higher end you have things like dermabolics e-form or any other number of AI's you can find at gym supplement stores. Just be wary of the ones which also contain testosterone boosters, as that could obviously worsen the hairloss situation. Most of the latter require some form of cycling, but you would find it most beneficial in keeping that fat off and putting on some muscle I'm sure. Start with a good dose of resveratrol if you're not already on it, and see if it helps.

This is actually a good observation since as you get older it is easier to put on weight, specially around the waist. I remember when I was in my late teens, could eat whatever I wanted and never gained weght. Now in my mid 20's I have to be very careful. That being said, I have been on finasteride for two years and I am currently very lean right now because I have been dieting effectively.

Training have the effect that the first years of hard training really gives you a better body and your muscles grows great. And then it gets much harder to get muscle gains.

And how do you actually know that someones get the same results as you with half the training? Off course you could be right, but its to easy to blame finasteride for everything.

well considering that bodybuilders take DHT and their derivatives before comps to harden up and get that grainy ripped look, I don't see why people think it's unusual to have diminished results in the gym by inhibiting DHT in the body...
You're still in your quality muscle building years into your 30's so unless mhd is in his late thirties I doubt that would be a significant problem.
I've often considered trying an anti-e for a little while to see if it has a beneficial effect to counteract what rusty pointed out as a possibility.
