I started losing my hair three years ago at age 17. I eat a completely clean diet with no processed foods, take 10g of fish oil and three multivitamins a day, but haven't managed to slow the process any. I never used any treatments because I was told by others when I started losing it (including a "hair specialist") that treatments were a waste of time and money and didn't really work.

Because of this, I've accepted my receding hairline, and I'm fairly confident about it (if that would be the one advice i could give to anyone on this forum, that would be it... there are a few people here who can't seem to accept their hair loss). No one has ever really mentioned it since high school so I've had no problems there.

However, I just found this forum and I've been voraciously reading it for the past three days. The success sub-forum has inspired me - should I bother with treatments/concealer when I'm this far along already?

Otherwise, I'm just going to shave it bald in a couple months. I'm working on my physique so I figure it will look decent.

Go for it man..I think u can definitely thicken up the middle quite a bit with the right treat meant. Get on the big 3 ASAP (nizoral, finasteride, and rogaine.....try the 5% foam.) You may want to consider switching the finasteride with dutasteride, but read up on it as much as you can. Dutasteride hasn't yet finished phase 3 trials and has not yet been approved. Also...you might wanna try buzzing your hair down to a number one for now and see how that works out for you. I wish the best for ya man.

When I pulled up your pix, the bottom link had your bald head underneath mostly naked chicks. I thought it looked spectacular :D

Anyway, you definitely have a shot to grow some hair. Get on finasteride/minoxidil and I'll bet you get some frontal growth. It looks pretty bad there, but it also looks like you have a ton of fine, blond, vellus hair, which you can thicken/darken with treatment.

I look pretty decent with a 2 on the top, 1 on the sides for haircuts. I tried a 1/1 last summer and I looked weird - I might try it again this summer if you guys think it will really look better.

The blond hairs thing is true - I do have a lot of thin blond hairs, resulting in it looking okay up close, but from 40 feet away or more I look almost totally bald.

I'm looking at Toppix and Dermatch for thickening, would those work with short hair (i should probably migrate to the cosmetics forum). Alternatively, what's the best product to dye the tiny blond hairs with?

the exact moment u "heard" by "others" was the moment u should have wised up. without knowing anything u might have been able to perceive the opposite of what you "heard" to be true.

"when others said it wouldn't work"...........oh please. Consider your good fortune to find this website.

A goodly amount of people don't have the fortitude to stick with proven treatments. Will you? You will benefit from the proven treatments. Don't expect much new growth...but then u will see a gradual fill-in and maybe a small amount of growth. U will then maintain what u currently have for years to come and maybe some small amount of extra growth.

I give you a lot of respect for your statements man.
You'll be a successful in lots of stuffs if you keep on thinking like that.

I can't accept hairloss so that's why I go on regimen. I still have nice hair so I'm pretty happy but as long as I haven't succeeded in my projects I know that I could lose confidence If I had to lose hair.

I would advice you rogaine foam twice a day+ 1mg fina and some Dermatch to cover it up.(it also works on very short hair but u don't have to put too much and also the color has to match)

See ya
And again : Nice attitude man!

I just ordered DermMatch from the official website. I got Red and they gave me a free Dark Brown because I'm not sure which color will match better.

I'll post how it looks here when I get it. I'm currently researching treatment regimens.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys.

3 months of foam on ebay should at least cost you 20$ so it kind of look like a scam.

5X28 of proscar should be around 40$, depends if it's generic or not.

I don't know about nizoral.

You should do some searches on this forum to get some cheap website where u can buy it.

I would personally shave it...!

I know this may get alot of negative replies, but you're in a serious catch 22, only 20 and been losing it for 3 years so many would say it could come back and respond quite well, but in my honest OPINION and ONLY MY OPINION it's better to shave it. I say this because the top of the head is 100 % gone, the middle can be saved but at 20 you will look silly with hair on 1/2 your head, and the buzz cut wouldn't work because you need some hair to pull off at least a marine look. I know this sounds harsh but this is the way I view it,at 20 you can shave it (seems you have an excellent shaped head) and people won't think your going bald.. they will think it's a trend or your style... yet 10 years from now people will say "Yeah he shaved it because he was losing it"but at 20 people don't associate being bald.. we do on here because we've suffered.... I do believe if you started when you were 17 you would have been in a much better place now, also hard to guage hairloss when your 17 and trying to live life. I know this I was losing it for a few years .. until a friend said something to me and it just made me obsessed... either way if you shave it.. you can still start the treatment and use the rogaine foam and propecia/proscar ... and determine if you like it bald or not... you do have one blessing you have a good shaped head for a crew cut if you do grow some hair back and can also pull off the "shaved" look, hence I didn't say BALD! AT 20 it's the shaved look... late 20's-30's it's the BALD LOOK!Oh and please don't do the dermatch.. believe me your 20 ... you will get more slack for using dermatch .. than shaving your head...! Please people I stated this is MY OPINION and don't call me names... or argue let's try to be helpful... again I did state he can do treatments.. even if he shaves it!

All the best,
Rich

Where are you finding proscar for that cheap? Elitenet seems to be the cheapest place around.

Nuttyrich, thanks for the contrary opinion. I might do treatments for six months and if i don't like how its going just stop the treatments and shave it all off.

I'm getting the feeling that it's impossible to regrow hair at the front of my head (now occupied by thin vellus hairs)?

Well, I can't find the site anymore, I buy it in pharmacy now.

I'm sorry, but I'm thinking the same thing as you, it will be hard to regrow hairs on the front without an hair transplant.

Although there is always a possibility, I've seen some crazy results around here.

It's just up to you to make the choice to treat it or not, treating it might make you pay more attention to it, will cost you money...

If I was you I would try rogaine and finasteride for 3-4 months or more, then would stop if there is no result at all.

Just my thoughts,

Good luck mate

I agree with your opinion and I don't think anyone will be attacking you for providing your honest opinion of such issue.

After all this is a hairloss form and everyone here needs sincere suggestions.

Okay, awesome. I just ordered Rogaine Foam, Proscar, and Nizoral Shampoo. I have enough stuff for 3 months so I'll probably do 6 months of stuff and then stop if I'm not seeing decent results.

Thanks for the help, as everyone says I wish I had found this forum two years ago...

Okay, I'll up it to a year. I was reading some stuff about how most people could see regrowth after six months.

One last question - is it possible to shave my head WHILE doing the treatments, and then if i get decent regrowth let it grow back out again at a later date?

um yeah. hair shafts grow out from underneath the skin so it's not a problem...

I would go with the big3 only because you want to regrow and keep hair so why half-*** it.

Based on my experience, min foam really works and I think you could see some regrowth in 2-3 months. I took finasteride for five years, and maintained for the most part, and that's what I looked like in my first month of pics... maintained but major loss on the crown.

I would give the big3 at least 6 months, but really 9 months... and I would take msm. You want to stay the course through several growth cycles because I don't think all the hair comes back at once.
