COMPLETELY misdiagnosed my male pattern baldness, but is there hope anyway?

UPDATE: Leaving HairLossTalk.com for good. Thanks everybody.

So I have for the past year thought I had the beginnings of Classic male pattern baldness as described by the Norwood scale. My temples were receding, and I thought if left untreated I would recede all the way back to nothing eventually. (So I began minoxidil <3 months ago, finasteride <2 months ago). But in my hotel room on a trip today, I just realized my hairline/temples aren't all that bad. BUT I AM A DIFFUSE THINNER. I'm thinning ALL OVER. But is there hope for me? Because the back of my head, where male pattern baldness/dht does not affect hair at all, I seem to have just as much density as the top. Give me your opinion.

Back of head (area unaffected by dht). Same as top?

My friend keeps his hair short like that and it looks like that in the sun, not as much though I don't think. He really doesn't show any signs of balding, either.

Just grow your hair out. I have no idea why so many buzz their hair wayyyyyy earlier then they have to. Totally unnecessary. If you are balding then at the very least you want to enjoy it while you have it.

lol my hair is like in the same situation like you
i think as fred and co have pointed out, having it short makes it look like its 'diffusing' when its not actually.'
hence why im growing my hair out

If you think this guy is not thinning you need to check your eyes. Most people that tell you are ok only caught their male pattern baldness at a NW3-4.

I have straight hair like this guy and my sides and back look exactly like his top in bright light and at the right angle, that's perfectly normal.

There's a very little temple recession though.

I actually agree that you are diffuse thinning a little. In hindsight my diffusing started off like that but I didn't recognise it as such. You don't need to buzz it and your hair will look completely normal when grown out.

I don't know why you are on minoxidil but id keep on finasteride and enjoy all your hair.

I'm definitely going to be on finasteride for life. However, I'm pretty certain that the minoxidil will at least help me recover some of the density I had a few years ago. Why wouldn't a diffuse thinner use minoxidil?

Well, my hair was quite long before I buzzed it and it was very difficult to get minoxidil on the scalp. Now it's so easy. I plan on growing my hair out for the next year, and all the while getting minoxidil directly to the scalp. I feel it will make my hair come out even better than it was.

I think it looks like it's thinning, but you can't know for certain unless you see a specialist.

About 1/2 a month of growth. I think the minoxidil has helped somewhat.

Hey temple,

Been following your story for awhile now I guess. You pretty much win in every situation. You can pull off the buzzed look. On top of that I don't even think you were ever balding to begin with. Your already on propecia so you will probably never go bald.

I dont think you were balding.

Your hair just grows upwards so when you take a HD pic with flash forn over your head you see more scalp then hair because the hair is pointing towards the camera.

Very common among asians especially

When you hair grows out it fills in. 1/2 month is not enough for any treatment.

Go enjoy life

You can't even see one sliver of scalp on that pic. Not sure if you are a troll, but it really looks like you are.

I'm seriously not trolling. look at the first pics in this thread. I've been on minoxidil ~4 months and that is supposed to be when results are visible.

Update

Now 2.5 months after buzz. My hair is growing thicker than before. Minimal temple recession. I'll probably exhaust my current minoxidil supply then stop using it. Will continue on finasteride forever.
