Hi all,
I have only just recently found this site and it is good to know that i am not alone with my genetic problem.
I started losing my hair when i was around 21, i had never noticed it myself. I found out one day when i was at work and someone said the words i never thought i would hear as a young man; "you are going bald at the back of your head"! Since that day i have never stopped obsessing over it. When i checked it out for myself it didnt seem that bad, just a bit thin at the crown and on my left temple a bit. I never did anything about it for 6 months as i was still applying wax to my hair with no real problem.
I realised that the situation was getting worse and i started thinning all over my head. From the top to the sides and the shedding was just not stopping. I started to look at my fathers hair but he was in his late 40's and still had a decent head of hair. I know full well that he had normal thick hair in his 20's and 30's. He just has a muture head of hair now.
The first treatment i started on was propecia which is 1 pill you take every single day. I buy this stuff from Boots store in the UK. You can 3 months supply for £90 from the Pharmacist. I have had no side effects from this and that is still the case. I still thought that this was just not enough to stop the shedding so i went to a specialist clinic in the London called the Belgravia Centre. I highly recommend this place as it has fully qualified doctors that pratice in male and female hair loss and scalp problems. They recommended that i go on minoxidil 12.5 which is a cream based solution that you put on your scalp once a day at night before bed. I have noticed on this website that only small percentages are used of minoxidil, maybe 1-5%. Which i think comes in the form of Regaine or Rogaine that can be bought over the counter. The 12.5% that is use cost around £165 for three months use but you getting expect advise and treatment. The only treatment they recommend is propecia and minoxidil 12.5(cream) or minoxidil 5%(liquid alcohol solution). Anything else they do not approve of as these are the best two treatments to be on at the same time. If the other options do work for you then great but these are proven experts opinion. Again i have had no side effects from the minoxidil 12.5%.
I am going to try the minoxidil 5% which you apply once in the morning and in the evening. The reason for this is because where i have general thinning all over i find it hard to apply the cream and i think a liquid would get in easier.
I am 23 now and i kind of hope it has stablized but if anyone else has any tips or recommendations please let me know. Also, what are the BIG 3? what does it mean when posted on here Norwood 3 or NW4?? I am still building up to wanting to shave my head. I have noticed that some people have done that on here and it helped them get on with life.
Hope to hear from you all soon!
