Deadly new flu virus in the US now:

I read about this on wikipedia:

In 1976, the government either gave out or forced like half the country to get vaccinated for flu. There were thousands of people paralyzed by the vaccine, and 25 died.

As for the swine flu, I say wait and see if anyone dies before we all get vaccinated. It is well known that vaccines often have side effects that affect like 1% of the population. Why kill 3 million people to save 20,000?

Either way, it does seem that mexicans are more susceptible to it than americans are.
I've heard some explanation for that... apparently, Americans who have gone to hospital have received anti-viral treatments, which have knocked down the symptoms fairly effectively and prevented the flu symptoms from causing pneumonia. On the other hand, Mexican private hospitals generally require payment up front, so only a fraction of the infected population received good treatment... and the public hospitals and/or community "healers" don't have access to advanced anti-virals... which has increased the number of infected folks whose flu has deteriorated into more life-threatening pneumonia and high fever, and in some cases death.

One thing to keep in mind, though... trying to assess how "fatal" this flu is is probably premature in my opinion. We need to remember that thousands of people die each day due to garden variety respiratory ailments.

After my initial panic and a few hours of rioting in the streets, im now prepared for the worst.

Bomb shelter with enough food to last me 350 years.
