So far i would have to say I am cautiously optimistic ...however, I am taking Max GXL to boost glutathione and I am using my laser helmet 2 or 3 times a week AND crushing 250mg of Niacin in my smoothies every other day or so...

...but I think things have stabilized...or at least slowed down a bit...things were getting scary there for a bit...

...on another note -- some hair on the top of my hand that started to thicken up over the past 5 years or so is appearing to thin out...qualitatively I would have to say that body hair seems to be getting lighter in some areas...

i've been on it for 3 and a half weeks now taking once a daily dose, my dht levels were 312 pg/ml before starting anything. I feel as if im losing more hair, could this be a shed? whenever i put rogaine on now, i just see my sink full of all hairs that were miniaturized.

Everest: You should check your dht levels again to see if it has had any impact on your DHT levels. It is too early to tell if its working or not, and I wouldnt worry about shedding miniaturized hairs they dont add much to your cosmetic appearance and they were bound to fall out anyways. This can also be a good sign if treatment is working but you wont know for at least another 3-6 months. I would go get a blood test as soon as you can to check your DHT levels though.

Hi everyone! I wanted to jump onto a thread (first post!) on which keratene retard is being discussed. Im 29, losing hair for the last 2-3 years or so and finally decided to do something about it. The internet makes all this so much easier; forums, online shopping etc. I'd still be sort of mortified going into a chemist buying this kind of stuff to be perfectly honest. Soooo, I have been on the pills and serum for about 2 and a half weeks now. They arrived at my house relatively quickly but I live in the U.K so that's to be expected I guess. Packaging and directions were all pretty professional looking. It doesn't mention hair loss or anything anywhere on the outside postage packaging for those wondering lol! (I do think the web site looks a bit dodge to be honest! But then again maybe it's just not to my taste, faux futuristic job, I'm sure most of you have seen it by now anyway) I haven't had any sides from the pills at all but I put the serum on one morning in particular and after a while it made me feel a bit dizzy and faint but that was the only time anything like that happened. I'm not even sure you are meant to use the serum and the pills together as all the products basically contain variations of the same ingredients from what I can see. It says on the serum to use twice a week for 30 mins so I'm only taking one pill on those days. I had been looking at the forums for a while when keratene first came up. I'm not really sure if I'd ever make the finasteride leap to be honest but each to their own, no problems messing with other drugs or doing stupid stuff but risking permanent sexual sides to try and save some hair seems.....heavy handed I guess. Had my hair long for ever pretty much (playing music is my job) but I shaved it down with no guard a few weeks ago (also handy for any shed if it happens, starting minoxidil foam on monday too) and it actually looks pretty cool after a few days growth. Lot of people asked me why I shaved but a few others had noticed I was balding too and I always wondered what I'd look like without longish hair so I just said to people that I wanted to try something new. The fact it's not so bad is a huge weight off my shoulders to be totally honest, especially if I'm going to have to go short in the future anyway. I'm going to try keratene (if it actually lowers dht to any proper extent) and minoxidil for a year and see how it goes. I'd obviously prefer to not be bald by choice but the hassle of it all too! Anyway, I'll gladly post my progress up here. It's good to have someone to talk to! So far, no sides, no sheds and all grand down there too hahahaha. Hope you guys are keeping well!! : )

Ok I think now it's my turn to make something clear around here:

First of all, BT Charlie, thanks so much for sharing your story here, like you I'm using the Keratene capsules for a month now. (Twice a day)
I use the topicals either - Shampoo and Serum. I thought too that it's maybe dangerous to combine the capsules and the topicals but Chris Anderson who works at Keratene told me this:

"In fact, we actually recommend using a combination of topical products and capsules, as it provides the best and most efficient protection against alopecia.Keep in mind that the products are designed for the maintenance of the existing hair density."

Now you all know for sure - It is safe, According to Keratene, to use both capsules and topicals.

Cheers.

Hey! Hope everyone had a good weekend! Thats really good to know regarding the topicals and pills rjmogka, good work. Seems a little odd there was so much confusion over that!? I suppose its just because its a new product etc. Wasn't there someone saying earlier on in the thread that they had their dht tested before they started taking keratene? I just sorta jumped on it, I guess my proof will be in the seeing how my hair looks in the future. I know thats sort of silly not being more scientific about it as it certainly isn't that cheap (if it doesnt work well) Im certainly losing less hair on my pillow and stuff at night, that used to drive me crazy although as I said earlier my hair is much shorter now than ever before but id still see it. I hope the hot weather hurrys up because its fecking freezing having short hair! hahahaha cheltenham tomorrow, hope some of you guys back some winners!

anybody have any updates??? Im on minoxidil liquid 5% once a day (past 2 weeks) and from 2 down to 1 keratene capsule per day over the last month. I have noticed much less shedding but I have also started buzzing my hair. Cut it for the second time again this week, I know a rogaine shed would look crap with my longer hair! It was starting to get sparse enough as it is. Im committed to a year of minoxidil and keratene, see how it goes. If it works (maintains) it'd be cool for people to not have to take the risk with finasteride, although, Im sure finasteride has to work better/ is much cheaper etc its just the sides that put me off.

Hey all. Sorry about being quiet, I was on a trip down in Costa Rica with my girlfriend and her brother. Real beautiful place, btw, treat yourself and go whenever you can. Worth it.

Anyway, I have been taking the pills for close to a month and a half now, no sexual sides to report of, and the shedding on my temples has indeed stopped.

My regime as of now is: Keratene 2x/p day + Ketaconazole Shampoo Every Other Day + Crinagen.

I don't know about the 2nd blood sample yet, since I haven't had my blood drawn again yet. I will do that next week to compare my before to my after numbers. Hopefully the DHT HAS indeed gone down and I can call this treatment legit.

BTW: The people who ship this product really need to start offering shipping through UPS or something. What a mess with the postal service.

Other than that, I'm hopeful, it looks like it is working and I haven't had any sexual sides to speak of. Pretty pumped.

But I'm going to keep my hopes low until I see my blood samples.

im nearly certain its helping me maintain too, I have shed much less on Keratene and the itch that used to drive me crazy is almost completely gone, I dont have to scratch my head a few times per day anymore. I'm putting that down to the nizarol though. My scalp feels a lot better even while using minoxidil liquid (but the buzzed hair and new special treatment to the scalp were always going to help that in some way) no sides whatsoever (apart from wondering about sides, is it working etc) God its so sad but I'm really excited for your blood test!! Costa Rica is meant to be paradise, lucky fella! Were you diving and stuff? Some of the worlds best underwater scenery from what I hear. Lot of sharks too! hahahaha

Been on it for over 2 months...no sexual sides at all...I do have a skin reaction to it though -- it makes my skin sensitive and I get rashes...I take reactine and it helps bigtime...no reaction with my scalp or anything so that is good...there is no doubt it is Keratene that is giving me rashes cuz when I stop for a couple days, it completely goes away..

...I would say my loss has slowed -- no doubt about it...some areas continue to thin while other areas it appears either have slowed down...so it's still early ...gotta stick with it for at least 6 months...

hmm.This is what i found.
article: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/keratin-hair-treatment-side-effects.html

Allergic Reactions
Just like any other hair treatment, this treatment is also capable of inducing allergic reactions in a few people. The symptoms include itching, rash etc., which are typical allergy symptoms. Skin disorders such as eczema are also associated with keratin hair treatment. To avoid allergic problems resulting from this treatment, your hair stylist should first identify your hair texture so as to choose an appropriate product for your hair and scalp type. Also, you should clearly mention, if you have a history of allergic reactions.

Hi rudimentary,

Did you get a chance to retest your DHT levels?

Thanks!

2.5 months on Keratene after dropping Saw Palmetto and CET..and I have lost a lot of ground

Keratene gives me skin rashes periodically and I have body hair growth spurts in certain areas, while other areas it has subsided...I have read reports where Keratene had grown back body hair that had, for some reason, been lost...

Don't know what is going on with Keratene, but so far it isn't good at this point..one thing for sure, Keratene doesn't not give you sexual sides at all...but I don't know if its powerful enough...going to bring in a smaller dose of Saw Palmetto to help push the matter

From what I have read in other places, when DHT is lowered it can cause some loss of body hair (other than scalp) as body hair is primarily spurred by DHT.

From ground lost, do you mean you are seeing increased shedding? Not sure, but that may be a positive sign.

^^^ I would say if you are majorly losing ground to up the dose to 2 capsules per day but if you are getting rashes I would stop completely first and see if that gets any better. Im going to go for the largest batch of capsules next and take 2 per day for the duration. Have been having a minoxidil shed the last while, not much fun.minoxidil makes the hair I have look and feel sh@&e but I really want some regrowth if at all possible.....Just gotta keep on with the treatment. I decided in the beginning to give it a year so thats what Im going to stick with

- - - Updated - - -

it also said on the kerartene site to not take any other dht inhibitors with the capsules. Id imagine saw palmetto would most definitely fall into that category. If you really aren't satisfied I'd just leave it,its giving you rashes and your losing ground with your hair then its most likely not what you need at this moment in time. I have had no sides whatsoever. Im 99.9% sure this shed is just from the minoxidil.Had been on this a while before I started the kirkland and had noticed much less hair fall in day to day life.

Loss of body hair in some areas, but also seeing increases in other areas, which is very strange

I really don't know whats going on ... I have about 8 or 9 hairs isolated on my left temple...they usually grow very slowly and then only get to about 1/8 of inch ...but now they are growing like normal hairs...it is very strange...however my temples are receding further and further...something is going on with my hormones, no doubt..

..seeing as I am only 2.5 months in, I'll drop the Saw Palmetto all together and just ride it out...it almost seems like my healthy hairs are gaining in strength, but those hairs that are already DHT compromised are leaping fast...
