Did I ever need finasteride ? Been on it for two years

I have always wondered the same thing in my case but my dad had a NW3 in his late teens. Finasteride is just an insurance policy.
Main reason I want to stop is because I feel like I have dryer, thinner skin since being on it. Felt like my skin used to look thicker / healthier. Idk

I don't think it affect you skin that much. If anything, it will help with acne for those that have it. You can stop it and see how you do. Or go topical and see if you notice the same.

@JohnSmith21, I remember who that poster was now. It was AnxiousAndy. You guys had similar hair. He left the forum after he was convinced he cured his hair loss. I am sure maybe he might be back some day.

You said so yourself that your hairline definitely improved. And I agree. So if you get off it, you're almost certainly going to go back to where you started from, if not possibly worse in time. I know I wouldn't risk the protection you have in place.

And these are from the other day, after two years on finasteride. My hairline def improved, but my density actually feels lower. I’m wondering if I ever needed finasteride, and If I’ll lose a significant amount of hair If I come off
Theres no way to tell at this point what the consequences of stopping treatment would be. That being said, there are two likely answers here: you never had hairloss to begin with or finasteride is doing it’s job and holding the line. If it’s the former, your loss is likely to be minimal, but if it’s the latter your loss would be substantial. Another issue is the possibility that you weren’t losing hair at the start, but it began some point after. You’re just going to have to decide if you’re willing to roll the dice or not.

This was basically how my hair was going. This is when I first started finasteride. Was I headed to Norwood 3 or 2?

And this was a few days after that. So I could have just been getting a mature hairline ? I might come off for a little, get a blood test, and then hop back on at a lower dose

Possibly, but there is no way to know if you will go beyond a 2, which is typically considered balding at that point.

Exactly haha. That’s why this is so f*****g annoying. Wouldn’t mind staying there at all, and that’s what a “mature hairline” is

My hairline is a similar pattern to yours, I held off of treatment for a while and hoped it was only maturation but I started to see more miniaturization and hopped on treatment at that point. Wish I would have started sooner. But like I said, maybe you would stabilize at 2 for most of your life like some guys do.
