Do I need to start taking Finasteride after my hair transplant?

I here contradictory things, some say hair from back of the head is resistant to DHT, and then I also hear after the transplant, need to make sure you are taking finasteride. So which is it?

Avoid Finasteride as it is a highly dangerous drug. Docs are so quick to prescribe that poison without informing the patient about the risks.

Your transplant will maintain regardless, worst case scenario you get another transplant in a few years.

Docs tell you to take Finasteride because the extra native hair growth will make their transplant appear to look better. And it can reduce the problem of you running out of donor hair in the future.

Your transplanted hairs are pretty permanent either way. If you have severe baldness in the recipient areas then the transplanted hairs may get mildly thinned out over time. This can happen even with Finasteride use.

When I had sexual sides from finasteride I went back to my hair transplant surgeon (naively, thinking he could help) and he gaslighted me and treated me like I'm just some silly hypochondriac guy. Those charlatans deserve to be locked up. In the future, humanity will look back and wonder why we took so many harmful, unnecessary drugs.

And another and another and another? You SHOULD have been 100% sure you were maintaining your hair BEFORE a transplant. Take it from me, if you continue to bald you're in for a world of hurt.
No one can guarantee that hair will be maintained long term, no matter what. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.

A hair transplant without finasteride is just asking for trouble unless you've reached your final balding pattern. In which case it's pretty pointless getting a transplant as there's only so much a transplant can do for you.

I reached my final pattern and out of everything I had tried, the transplants were actually the only thing that worked for me and changed my life for the better.

I will say it made a world of difference. Like a million times better.

At the same time I also acknowledge that I was a rare case.

I'm glad it worked out for you, I didn't want you to end up like someone like Callum Best who is always fighting against additional loss with more transplants and running out of donor area.

That's what all those dermarolling, minoxidil, head massage, keto shampoo, etc dudes do on a daily basis anyway :)

Exactly... trust me crazy sh*t can happen out of no where. Those that know me from almost a decade ago on this forum know that I had a decent hairline, but diffused thinning everywhere. Within three months of Telogen Effluvium and attempting finasteride it has completely miniaturized almost two inches back.

Very true. Sunak looked like he had Ronald Reagan genetics 4 years ago at 40 but he's starting to lose a little bit now. Unless you're completely bald in your 20s there's no way to know what your final pattern is going to be. Those who have a thick crown in their 20s and 30s and had a transplant at the front may be in for a shock when they reach their 40s and 50s.

Life is pretty much over at 50 in terms of looks, you're going to look ugly whether you have hair or not. If you can maintain your hair until then, you're all good.

No it's not. If you were good looking at 25, you will still be good looking at 50, not as good obviously but still better than an average/below average guy the same age. Look at guys like Pierce Brosnan and Brad Pitt

That's why the 'looks fade' thing is nonsense when choosing a life partner. Maybe at 70 they truly fade.

I've seen women in their 50s at work who I thought are attractive in a mature way.

This dude just made my day. 8 more years and perhaps my anxiety will be gone. I'll just give up. Any advice on just letting it go at 42?
As a married 40 year old im struggling. I've given up finasteride for a year now, my hair has gotten a lot worse, to the point it needs to be shaved down short. I'm still trying to pluck the courage to do it.

My head now starts to burn in the sun. I miss the protection

Why does this happen to us humans? Our hair isn't just cosmetic it's there to protect our scalp from the sun and cold.

A random mutation from some a**h** probably hundreds of thousands of years ago that didn't harm their chance of survival so the continued to breed.
It's theorized the gene spread since balding typically doesn't become evident until later in life, so the first mofo with the gene didn't even know they had it since people used to have children much earlier in the past than now.

Not to mention they would probably be dead by 35.

In the animal world only the extremely old or sick ones lose hair.

They found a Neanderthal (so not our species but close) skeleton that they concluded was around 40 years old when he died, which back then was the equivalent of an 80 year old (!).

I just looked it up, the average age of the early humans was just 33. Even in morr recent human history people didn't live that long and in many poor countries they still don't. Medicine in the 20th century, especially antibiotics changed everything.

Crazy how recent that is. I wonder how people a few hundred/thousand years into the future will view us, will they view our lives as really harsh and shitty like how we view the lives of people in the past?
