Doctor asked me not to take half of propecia pill

Hi, I recently got a prescription for propecia from a dermatologist. However, when I asked her, if I can take half of the pill, she warned me not take half of the pill, otherwise it will be just waste of money. The reason, I wanted to take half of the pill, is because about an year ago, I started taking propecia (from different doctor), and I did for like a month or so, but I stoped it because I was having bit funny filling in my left nipple and was kind of feeling dizzy. So, now I want to try half of the pill. Any body, tried that? I hope there is no harm in it. What do you suggest? Thank you

Lots of people say it's fine, and will work good.

My advice: Don't listen to doctors.

.5 mg of finasteride (1/2) pill in some cases could be just as effective as 1mg.....doses even lower could work....don't listen to your doctor.

Thanks guys, I will start my new adventure from tomorrow, and hopefully, I won’t have side effects like last time and gain bit of thickness. Or may be I am just too hopeful.

I had to cut down from 1mg to .5gm aswell...my derm told me exactly the same thing. However im comin up to 7 weeks now and i think the shedding had reduced. No regrowth yet, but its probably way to early. Also i have no sides on .5mg.
So i dont think there is any harm in you giving .5mg a shot.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Yea, I think. .5 mg is more suitable for some people as not every one is producing same amount of DHT, and has different level of tolerance.

Yea, 7 weeks is too early to see any re growth. I was told, one have to wait 6 months to see any kind of change. However, I think you are responding well as your shedding has already reduced. Good luck and God bless.

what reason's did your docs give? If gyno was the reason, don't believe them. The only reason I once worried was what if the outer layer is needed to protect the pill from the stomach acid. I don't think this is a problem though. Usually the only time there is an issue is if the pill is time released or can upset the stomach. And many guys on here are not going bald.

I believe the .5 mg did me in. I started to see shedding like I haven't seen in years when I went to .5 mg a day. I then went to 1mg every other day with the same results. I then went to quarter pill of Proscar to save money and I don't think that worked as well either. I have been on it for about 8 years so it may be that I have a tolerance for it? Regardless, I am shedding all the time now and haven't shedded like this since I started taking propecia 7/8 years ago. My advice is if you can afford it take 1mg everday. That is just my experience. Since I started playing around with the dosage my hair has gone down hill. I tried ,5 mg and a quarter of proscar over a 1 1/2 year period.

Pills have been known to pass all the way through without being digested at all. Why take any chance at all? Just chew them up...

What about Avodart? I thought I read something about not chewing those, so I don't. And they smell disgusting so I thought that they probably taste disgusting as well, considering they are gelcaps.

Anyway I am seeing regrowth so I gotta assume that they are being digested.

Yeah, I've read that Avodarts taste terrible, too, so that's a strong incentive NOT to chew them up.

its not tolerance. finasteride doesn't stop being effective. it's just your that 20% of DHT from 5aR II that finasteride doesn't block becoming too strong for your hair. my advice is to go on dutasteride, that blocks high 90% levels of DHT from 5ar II, but i recommend u take 0.5mg every 3 days. you've done well though if you've been on finasteride for 7/8 years and only now you're having to switch to dutasteride!!
