Update: 4.5 years with minoxidil and no finasteride. I am still maintaining. My left hairline is almost NW1, but my right is NW2.5. Overall I am still maintaining though.
I'm looking forward to the release of the minoxidil enhancer shampoo..could be interesting.

I find it incredible a drug that's been around since the 60s and we still don't know what makes it work. You would think modern technology could figure it all out by now.

I just don't think there is incentive to... scientists won't (generally) get funded for researching something that won't make money. Capitalism 'n all that!

Noting that Spironolactone cream or topical doesn't do anything since it needs to be administered oral to actually work.
Sorry, I disagree, since, it fact, it works for acne ( as you can find it on pubmed ) as topical . And yes, use it oral works, but is a none sense, you will have gynecomastia 100 % sure ( I got it , back in 2000 cause this, done surgery cause this )

I heard spironolactone needs to be digested to be effective thus the topical version can't work while people still buy that 5% cream from Canada and apply it everyday religiously. Go figure.

Interesting about what pavi has to say. You see this question is vital in helping us understand hairloss.

we know that long term hairloss leads to peri follicular fibrosis. We know they discovered inflammation in the follicle in studies of Androgenetic Alopecia. We know Androgenetic Alopecia patients have reduced blood flow.

what we dont know is if the blood flow issues is the start or the result of the problem

We know that not all Vasodilators grow hair. But specifically a few potassium channel openers.

know if minoxidil will at least maintain hair permannetly for as long as u use it correctly would tell us something really important. It would tell us that minoxidil only grows hair but it stops the perifollicular fibrosis which would mean its the best treatment there is.

But if minoxidil eventually loses its effectiveness then perhaps its only putting a bandaid on the issue

It is extremely boring to apply Minoxidil. I don't even know how some people use it during several years. I used it for 1-1,5 year and dropped it. Now I only use finasteride.
