Does rogaine foam cause water retention/bloated face?

I've heard some stories of people on the liquid version who have experienced water retention and a bloated face. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this with the foam? I'm on my first week on the foam(first rogaine treatment ever) and I haven't experienced any heart/blood problems, itchyness, shedding, or water retention(i think).

The thing about water retention is that it's a gradual process so you don't really notice it, at least I don't. I remember I was taking a liquid version of creatine for working out and I got bloated gradually so I didn't notice until people I knew started looking at me with a weird face and let me know that I looked bloated. Anyone here experience water retention with the foam?

I think liquid minoxidil definetely gave me water retention in the face, but I don't see it as much in the foam version. this is possibly because the foam is supposedly less absorbed systematically then the liquid.

I think it is just the opposite, since the foam is more absorbable it can cause more side effects than the liquid. I used the liquid for some time and never had any sides, even though I used more then 1ml. With the foam I tend to get some face bloat if I use more then 1/2 cap.

MORE ABSORPTION = GREATER CHANCE OF SIDE EFFECTS

oh fuk, i really hope i dont get any face bloating. Luckily i've had none so far i dont think. How do u know if your face is bloated, you notice it right away or someone tells you? Anything u can do to prevent it?

Actually I did not notice it myself, was too occupied checking my hair for growth. A friend of mine who had not seen me for a few months said it looked like I had gained weight, but I actually had lost about 20 lbs. When I took a good look I could see signs in my jawline and neck contour that were bloated. I have cut back on the amount of foam, I do not have it all the time now, but on some days I wake up with the bloat but I usually goes away by end of day. I may have to switch back to the liquid if the sides do not go away.

my face already feels bloated but i think its because ive been eating a lotttt of SALT lately...for the next 2 weeks im gonna stay clear from fukin salt and if my face doesnt change im gonna have to do something with this foam then i duno.

chr1s,

I am using the foam twice a day. I am trying to cut back on the amount and use as least possible so I can avoid the puffiness, kind of hard to measure it but I am now using the cap to measure the exact amount and hopefully it will make a difference. I do not want to stop using it since it is working so well, better than the liquid did.

I think cutting back on the salt is a good idea, it may make a difference, maybe I should do the same. Let me know how you make out.

Hey johnny thanks for the tips... I am in fact starting to be more precise with the foam. I use only half a cap full for both my front and back. To me that seems so little, but that's the recommended dose anyway.

I have stopped eating salt and my face seems to be back to normal. Yesterday I took a break and used it just once. Today I used it twice and boy I was peeing like crazy today and I didn't even drink that much. I figured it was all that water retention leaving my body, not sure I never payed close attention to water retention "leaving my system" before.

chr1s,

Thanks for the update, perhaps since you cut back that day to one application, it helped the water retention issue. I am sure the lower sodium intake is helping too. I am doing much better in this issue myself, having cut back the amount of Rogaine to exactly 1/2 cap with an occasional day off to let things normalize. This stuff works so well for me I would not want to stop using it. I will now be trying to limit my sodium like you are doing and I am sure that will help the situation. Good Luck!

Hmm interesting, I noticed that some days I go to pee heaps, but I never attributed it to minoxidil.

I think my face has become more bloated recently (since starting minoxidil), esp a 2nd chin, but i cant quite prove as I never paid that much attention.

It seems that my face looks better in the evenings.

The best for you all would be to take pictures monthly starting prior to treatment.

This is a surefire way you aren't just deceiving yourself.

I get the same ugly bloated face from minoxidil and also i pee a lot when using it too, but the water doesnt seem to leave my face when peeing, only when the stuff is out of my system. Sucks.

Ive used all minoxidils and they usually all do the same thing. usually 1ml once or twice per day, sometimes 2ml it takes to cover my head but after just once application i'll get the water retention and it wont go away for about 2 weeks last time i tested it.

I really need to find a solution that actually works and isnt a dangerous prescription diuretic.

Only use 1mL on a DRY scalp.

Have not noticed that much water retenation, but i got some blue bags under my eyes recently. When i sleep it also notice that some skin have peeled around my eyes.
Right now when i watched myself in the mirror my face seemed lean, but i remember seeing myself and thinking FTW a few times before. Wrinkles, have not noticed. Dizziness, some random a few months apart. Have them my whole life as i remember so probably nothing...

For the past week now i have changed to only once a day, on a DRY scalp. ALWAYS used on a damp scalp before. Thinking of staying off minoxidil completely for 1 week - 10 days and then restart once a day with regulary facial pictures, and close up makro mode around eyes. Might be interesting

There might be a connection between original rogaine vehicle and cusoms one like dr lee's. More steady minoxidil absorbtion vs lots of absorbtion fast and a little later on the few % PG there is. Rogaine's one sounds better hair/less sides vise and lee's sounds better on styling...

I do think Rogaine is better than off brand minoxidil. I had sides noticeable sides from kirkland but minimal sides from rogaine
