Thank god there's others who are experiencing a shed after the initial 6 months. Started on the duta/nizoral/minoxidil regimen back in beginning of march and had great success towards the end of the 3rd month. My frontal hairline advanced nearly half an inch and my hair thickened a bit all around. But, i've been semi freaking out because my hair has been somewhat thinning again. I went through a shed within the first 8 weeks I believe, and now have been on the 2nd shed for ~3 weeks. I have found that using a volumizing shampoo + a little Toppik helps immensely during these sheds. Perhaps the inital shed was due to minoxidil. and this 2nd shed is being caused by the dutas?

Anyone have any qualified insight on whether switching from using Avodart 3 times a week (MWF) to every day, will increase or decrease my shed.....and why?

Thanks,

CDF

(College....I'm betting you'll bite on this one....maybe Felk and Aplunk too)

I don't know why many people shed. I'm taking dutas every day with grapefruit, which should give the effect of at least 1mg per day. I was worried about a frontal shed, but I think the only reason for a frontal shed is if those hairs will be replaced, or the front of the scalp is as sensitive to testosterone as it is to DHT. But if that were true, propecia would not help people's front, and I think it has mine. Since Avodart increases the total number of androgens in the scalp, but makes a shift from DHT to testosterone, I would think a topical anti-androgen like spironolactone would help. Also, I use apple poly capsules and grapeseed extract because a docj077 found that these can stop the chemical pathway that starts after androgens bind with the receptor. At a capsule or two a month, they are cheap. I use them, minoxidil, and spironolactone, separately. I think CPs help reverse fibrosis, but only at low doses, and should help hair loss much by themself. They are good for long term repair after these other drugs stop the damage from occuring.
