^Interesting, especially the last sentence, but whether we like it or not our perception of beauty if affected from a young age upwards, whatever we see on billboards or in films will follow on from that. It's not that we give permission but we don't really have a choice, and even to fight against that choice is the acceptance that society has meddled with our perceptions, there's no winning basically.

I suppose some people do have some pretty original tastes when it comes to finding celebrities attractive for example.

It's a tough choice being yourself. With so much insecurity surrounding us it's a real problem trying to find our footing. There may be that a majority of us are more compelled or naturally suited to swimming with the tide than against it. In a way I envy their choice and/or preference to take the route(s) of least resistance. Early from birth we are all casted into the same rushing, unforgiving waters, where we learn to conform or fight for dominance.
For the minority who might gather their momentum by an inherent sense of independence and self awareness; I say follow a path of your own accord and shrug off the haters and naysayers. Relax and give your inborn gift for curiosity and appetite for new discovery the healthy breathing space to live and thrive upon the awesome, roaring tide of constant change.

I met a girl who who works at the European Union and had a project to force Belgian small and medium-size companies to reveal the salaries of their employees.

She told me she had research the subject for a long time, and in all the companies, men and women were always paid the exact same salary for the same job.

Her project's purpose was to end this "wage gap" myth once and for all. It's funny how many people still believe this wage gap BS.

Yeah it's laughable, this myth has been discredited for like 20 years. It's because idiots like Obama spout this nonsense when even his own department of labour refutes it.

Dunno whether you've seen this debate, it's hilarious.

In the US its very chic' to be oppressed and have someone else to blame for your shortcomings. Everyone is supposed to love the underdog... unless theyre bald lol (j/k)

it's why feminism is still going strong in an age where women have all the privilege. Feminists see attractive women waltzing through life while they have to "struggle" so claim that the system is bringing them down

almost all "minority" groups have major privilege yet still scream oppression. There are so many opportunities for excellence but its just easier to be lazy and say that some "man" is holding you back. Its not JUST women these days. Look at hispanic immigrants marauding the US demanding we alter our systems for them so they can all become full status and accept full freebie bennies, yet these are the same countries BLAMING the US for their issues for some strange reason. Same going on all over the UK with the middle eastern refugees. They are literally bitching about their temp housing and demanding certain foods from countries trying to help them. Problem is we have all started catering to this mentality instead of condemning it.
Give people an inch and all.

4 months after having graduated, I'm really starting to see the full extent of my straight white male privilege.

All the girls I graduated with found a job very quickly despite not having 1/4 of the skills and experience I have.

They don't seem to experience the same hurdles as I have. Employer's expectations always seem to be through the roof for me.

You see, I'm a straight white male! They think I'm highly advantaged for no f-ing reason.

I've been to collective interviews where I was competing with only girls.

I was the only one in the room who had a master's degree and none of them could even speak French correctly, but one of the girls still got the job.

I get laughed at when I say I struggle to get hired, even by my Arab best friend who also think white Europeans hold some kind of privilege.

Yet, on his company's website, on the page where you can send your application, it's clearly written: "We have hiring policy that encourages diversity."

It's funny, because minorities are actually the ones who get special treatments all the time these days. But somehow straight white males are privileged.

Here's another feminist myth that won't die.

Encouraging diversity easily translates to "dont be a white male"

I guess lets not turn this into a racial thread but Im just saying I feel ya. The wealthy get privilege, it just happens there are more wealthy white people than anyone else. Poor white trash (IE "me" growing up) get schit on just as fast as poor latin and black people. At least poor women can marry "up" lol

yep, my sister is in her penultimate year so is applying for internships, grad jobs etc. She knows how much easier it is for her to land interviews and positions compared to her male friends applying for the same things.

I've actually seen articles/data showing that performance in firms decline when they increase the proportion of women on corporate boards. For the sake of filling quotas, women are often hired over more qualified men. So companies are losing money just to not look sexist
