I'm sure it goes systemic. Both Progesterone and Esteroid.

For the record, there's no scientific evidence "regular" Progesterone regrows hair
lost by DHT.

It did NOT regrow my hair back with Progesterone. It just keeps it from falling out.

If anybody is interested, 17 red hydroxy Progesterone does regrow hair back in men,
due to androgen alopecia.

There is a government study on it (nibh org website).

I don't know of any pharmacy that can make 17 red hydroxy Progesterone.

Also, there is a non government link that has tried 15 red hydroxy Progesterone, and it didn't
get good results from regrowth.

15 red hydroxy Progesterone only regrew hair back in eleven percent of the men who used it.
I believe there were 27 men in the trial, and only three regrew hair back.

It sees like this would depend on your overall hormone levels, as progesterone largely acts in interactions with other hormones.

Lol @rclark . I know you say you're old, but you can at least make an effort to type the molecule names out properly. People won't know what you're talking about. Esteroid?

Just an update. Not much hair regrowth. Only three new terminal hairs (after a month and a half).

I believe my man boobs are growing, and that does bother me.

So far though, I don't need to wear a bra, or anything like that.

My idea of applying estrogen is while estradiol might be stronger than estriol that is only in terms of maximal feminization.
@IdealForehead has another thread discussing the beat eatrogen.
You want something that activates the estrogen beta receptor exclusively and strongly, which we haven’t figured out but genistein and S-Equol seem to be the best

Estriol seems the best in my opinion overall given that it is a natural compound with proven low affinity for breast tissue (low risk gyno) and plenty of positive anti-aging benefits for the skin. s-equol might be good too if we could get it pure and cheap but no suppliers for that...

@rclark , switch to an estriol 0.3% preparation or so and try that for a few months. I've been blasting high dose estriol and my dick is still working it seems... so far.

You can get estriol over the counter too so no expensive compounding needed:

https://www.amazon.com/Estro-life-Micronized-BioIdentical-Estriol-Menopause/dp/B004XJIDEO

I did the math on that product and it's 1.5 mg estriol per full pump. I'm doing 1 pump 4 times a day at the present and rubbing it on my legs since I can't rub anything on my scalp right now (and my hair would be too long anyway). I'm blasting it for systemic effects. That's the max I can handle.

If you're just applying to the hairline you'd need less.

Between Estriol and 1% Baicalin I'm filling up a bit of what I lost behind the temples so far. Estriol does seem to promote de-miniaturization but the difference compared to Estradiol is that it doesn't seem to tank systemic Testosterone and DHT, and as a result of that the hair diameter does not increase :( IN other words I am not getting the same kind of crazy thickness increase I had from estradiol within 2-3 months, just more coverage that is equally thin all over my head. Which kinda sucks.

I think I need to add equol to try and mop up the DHT around the scalp, then maybe the hair diameter would go up.

And as someone prone to gyno from Finasteride and Estradiol I don't seem to be getting any gyno symptoms from estriol. So this is probably the 'safest' estrogen to use, if you wanna use one.

How big is the risk of gyno with estriol? I can't use finasteride since i'm getting gyno symptoms after a month of starting. They disapeear after stopping.

I got gyno from finasteride and estriol does nothing in comparison.

but does it help with hair?

A little bit but I have not been using it for a very long time, and I am not on anti-androgens. I use other experimental sh*t along with it (baicalin, tempol...)

Very Interesting! I was about to start using finasteride but now I think I'll try estriol.
So what you're saying is you're bald-vellus spots are regrowing? What is 1%Baicalin and is this all you are using? @whatevr

I'm getting my hormones tested on the 20th btw. I work with an endo. I might ask her what her opinion is, but if I start this treatment after the 20th we can see if it HAS affected my T or DHT or LH or estradiol

The reason I'm considering topical estro over Finasteride is my guess that it will not downregulate my androgen receptors. I'm not even talking about my dick, but my muscles and how androgens act in the brain.
I'm 23, I'm still developing in terms of jaw width and a few other things. I REALLY do not want to risk my endocrine system.

I may buy estriol today, my fear is not just breast tissue. Estrogen receptors in the brain, frankly other actions have me afraid of dealing with feminizing hormones. But if @whatevr has had no sexual sides, it might be a cheap quick try before Morr-F

I don't think estriol will stop your hair loss in the absence of a proper antiandrogen.

Estriol to me is an extra agent. Not a primary agent.

The areas that miniaturized the most recently are just coming back a bit thicker and healthier, no miracles such as regrowth of slick bald areas (though I do not have much of those, I am NW2) - you don't even get that kind of miracles on estradiol most of the time.

Baicalin is a plant extract that acts as a AR inhibitor, and boosts growth factors like WNT pathway and VEGF, etc.

I've been using Minoxidil since 2015 but my results on that have already peaked a long time ago.

My problem is that my hair is very thin all over my head (mostly due to my thyroid problem) - and everything that changes my hormone levels immediately makes me shed and go into telogen effluvium, so I am constantly swinging between a semi-decent look and 'just shave it bro', and it f*****g sucks.

I need to get some equol. I'm not so much concerned with temples, I'd be fine being a NW2, I just want THICKNESS and DENSITY.

so how are you using Baicalin. I've been using @worm zix for AR inhibition. I don't know how to stack these things or how fast they absorb into the skin.

I have hypothyroid but it's mild. I also never get a shed but I'm NW2 and my widow peak is now thinning/balding.

I'm not sure what you mean by miniaturized unless you mean blonde vellus, I still have all mine

so how are you using Baicalin.

Topically, dissolved in 5% DMSO, 60% Propylene Glycol and the rest Ethanol 96%.

I'm not sure what you mean by miniaturized unless you mean blonde vellus, I still have all mine

The areas that are not quite as bad as vellus but started to miniaturize in the last 2 months or so, those come back the easiest.

f*** it. I just ordered some Estradiol and Estriol. I don't care if I can only use it for a few months I just want to have thick hair again even if it's fleeting. This could be the last time I have good hair.

I'm going to use Estradiol first since it promotes more hair growth then after a few months when I start having dick problems I will switch to Estriol for maintenance since it is not as intense.

Good luck everyone.
