Feeling 'weird' on finasteride. Any Ideas why?

Apologies if it has been covered and excuse my ignorance if this seems stupid.

I have started finasteride, as suggested by a few members on my thread (I'm NW2, always have been but temples have thinned out recently). Anyway I decided to start taking 0.5mg if finasteride, it's my third day.

Every time I take it I feel really zoned out, if that makes sense. I feel really bizarre, as if I'm on drugs. Not a bad feeling per say but I feel not myself, a bit dazed, if you will.

Could be totally coincidental, maybe it's all in my mind but im normally clear and level headed.

I would say that it's just the anxiety, if not then it might be due to the hormonal shift.

I had the same feeling. I felt foggy, but I have no way of knowing if it was the finasteride, or other factors. For me it seemed to get worse.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Yes, I was thinking its maybe just a manifestation of any anxieties I have with starting the treatment.

Logikmtr, I think I read something similar, it must have been you. Did the symptoms ever subside, are you now off it I take it?

This has been reported by some individuals. I do believe it can be a real side effect of Finasteride but can naturally be nocebo too. See if it disappears in a few weeks. Or you can get off and see if the problem goes.

I ciuld relate 100%. This is my 3rd attempt being on finasteride and although I don't have this problem much anymore this time around.. this may just actually be your hormones out of whack.. you should give it some time to adjust but when I first took it I felt this to a great extent where I didn't even wanna go out with friends cause I felt so out of it.. now I always stick between .3-.5 doses and I am doing fine... my advice is stick it out for a bit... it's a month into my 3rd attempt and this is usually where I feel sides and I could truly say that so far my only side is watery ejaculate. Good luck bro

Is that the moment after taking it?
Because that sounds pretty ridiculous.

No, no. Not immediately, however within the next few hours. This subsides after a little while anyway, its not debilitating.

As I said, I may be wrong.

Others have had this problem though, so it may be a 'thing'?

"Brain fog". finasteride users have been reporting it forever. Definitely a real side effect. I would suggest lowering the dosage and seeing if it subsides.

Did this today, what I suspect to be about .3mg and I have none of these sides. Maybe my systems getting used to it, or maybe I should up the dosage gradually.

Thanks for the advice.

Glad to hear it. I think because of the flat dose-response curve of Finasteride, 0.25mg actually only inhibits slightly less DHT than 1mg, but you'll have less chance of sides. There may be no need to increase your dosage past 0.5mg really.

Sorry for the delay. I did decide to stop taking it. I was at a half dose already, and for me the fog was getting worse, which I can't have due to my line of work. After a few days without finasteride, I still felt foggy, but it cleared up gradually after that. I had been on for six months. I can't believe how the sides sidled up on me. I also noticed a definite increase in sex drive also, which I didn't even think was being affected when I was on it.

finasteride reaches the brain. Is it possible it could cause some kind of brain fog? Sure. I doubt you will ever get many more answers than that given the complexity of things that happen there.

What Logikmtr wrote about sides creeping up is true and a real danger of the drug I would say.

When we get sides some say reduce and the body will get used to finasteride but there's a danger we stop noticing things that creep up out of our awareness over time. I think the way the body has sides is like a warning. Are the sides worth the risks?

.

It could be the brain fog ppl talk about... try taking zinc supplements I've heard they're good for any sides and the prostate itself as well

so you're feeling dizzy ? or it's more of a sight problem

It's not dizziness, you just feel "out of it". Difficulty thinking, feeling sluggish, etc. It is frustrating especially when you are trying to concentrate on something. For a while I thought I wasn't getting enough sleep. Towards the end of my finasteride use, I was coming in to work and never snapping out of the haze. It almost felt like I took a bong hit, without any of the GOOD side effects. I would be reading a document, and read the same paragraph over and over. It was persistent, and that's when I knew something was wrong.

I was taking a zinc supplement at the time. It just goes to show how differently the drug can affect different people.

So I lowered my doseage to about 0.3mg eod (I'l up this to every day after a month or two). I take a 15mg zinc tablet every day aswell.

The fog has dissipitated and so far after 2 weeks (praying and hoping) I don't have any side effects, minus the ball ache I had sporadically at the start.
