Finasteride Destroyed My Hairline In 4 Months

I’m ready to jump off of a bridge. Everything I try to slow down thinning has only accelerated the loss. I could have gone 5 years at the rate when this started but after a minoxidil shed, chronic minoxidil effluvium, and Finasteride eating my temples and forelock from diffuse to gone.

My health health has also gone to hell with crazy shifts in hormones due to this garbage.

Similar story here, brother. I started a nasty shed at around the 4 month mark too, and it only recently calmed down. My hairline went back and I lost a lot of density over the top of my head when I've NEVER previously diffused.

Just part of treatment. Wait for the year mark before evaluating effectiveness.

Ever got back to your normal density from before the shed?

I feel your pain, have been in the same boat for 6 months. 22 days ago I started using topical estrogen at night and RU (in stemoxy-thanks El Deuterino!!) in the AM. I SWEAR the last couple days I can finally see a cosmetic improvement. Still keeping the finasteride but finasteride alone would not have saved me

Try the estro / RU combo before you jump (and don’t jump :). ).

I mean. I can’t believe how fast I’m thinning out. When I wash my hair, my hand is wrapped with long healthy hairs as if I was just pulling them out. I am careful and gentle.

No question 300-500 a day. Considering trying RU again and topical Finasteride.
Maybe Brontzu/Trinov.

I see a TON of small vellus hairs everywhere. No bald spots yet even at the temples. If not for the diffusing I’m probably a 1.5/2. It’s all happing in under three years. Last Xmas only the crown was thinning.

Thoughts on switch from oral minoxidil to a high % 10, 15, 20 topical minoxidil? First try with minoxidil caused an insane shed.

I feel like oral Minoxidil is what screwed you over to be honest. Your dosage of finasteride might not have been enough.

Maybe but how does anyone know. I was told by 5 doctors minoxidil can do no harm and that Finasteride while a horrible drug could stop the loss. Both only accelerated the loss. Hair that could have got me to 55-60 all gone in a year. All a joke.

The veterans on this site are WAY more knowledgeable about hair loss and how to treat it than the doctors that I went to. The typical Doctor (dermatologist) doesn't know sh*t about treating hair loss. It's pathetic really.

Does anyone why finasteride can destroy the hairline in some people? I know a friend who went from NW2 .. to NW4 in 3 months and never got his hair back while being on finasteride.

It changes the amount of androgen receptors in the prostate. So when people stop it backfires. Why it would take a turn for the worst while still on finasteride could have a similair effect. Every body type is different and remember that our bodies will do anything to fight off what they think doesnt belong. Increase test and you get more estrogen. Your body will always seek its balance. Its a complicated meganisme.

It sounds like you’ve taken a chaotic, panicked approach to hair loss treatments which is inadvisable. Might be too late now but why not just reduce your regimen to finasteride and try to maintain what you have? As I said in your other thread, cosmetically your hair still looks good.

We dont know this. Your looking at it in a negative way that you have already committed to thinking. The studies and statistics suggest its worth a try and most of the time everything goes back to normal

IDK I see study from 2014 saying finasteride lowers AR expression in prostate tissue. I also see your 2011 study saying it up regulates AR expression if this is the one your referring to? Your study sounds like its in vitro vs 2014 was from actual patients. I dont think the results conclusively show what your suggesting though. I think its more accurate to say we dont know.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24789081

CONCLUSIONS:
In this study, finasteride decreased the expression of epithelial androgen receptor in a tissue specific manner. The correlation between epithelial androgen receptor and the extent of luminal epithelial atrophy suggests that epithelial androgen receptor may be directly regulating the atrophic effects observed with finasteride treatment.

Epithelial androgen receptor but not stromal androgen receptor expression was significantly lower in patients treated with finasteride than in non-treated patients.

If anything downregulation seems more likely and explains more of the issues have after getting off.

But since every is different your hormone levels. Your thyroid all that stuff could cause other things to react competely differently
