Fincar questions ! :)

Hi,

I just received my order of Cipla Fincar from popularchemist.. in a very timely manner I might add. I now have 300 days worth of finasteride, and it only cost me $48.95 ! :D

So, I was splitting up a few of the pills with a razor today, into approx. 1mg slices, and thought to myself, "How can they fit a whole 1mg worth of finasteride into this tiny little slice, when Propecia 1mg is a much bigger size?"..

I didn't understand the way it's 'stuffed' all in there, in such a small pill.. Does Propecia contain a lot of 'filler' or something which makes it look bigger per 1mg than it really 'needs' to be? The slices of 1mg (approx.) Fincar are so tiny, but as long as it's about 1mg in each 1/5th slice, I really don't care.

Can anybody explain this?

Also, does it make any serious difference whatsoever if my 1mg slices aren't EXACTLY 1mg?

Thanks,
-misterium

I'll comment on a few items. Since you've already purchased the medicine, it doesn't do any good for me to suggest you get a legitimate prescription from a doctor. So, that being said:

1) 1mg is an extremely low mass. Put it this way...454 GRAMS (metric system) is equal to 1 lb (English system). One milligram is 1/1000 of a gram. In other words, it would take close to a HALF-MILLION milligrams of ANYTHING to weigh a pound. So, you can see that by mass, the effective dose of pure finasteride is miniscule...and a low component of your pill's total mass. Yes, the rest of the pill is "fillers" and "binders"..... things that keep the dose homogenous and in one piece. They also make the dose a practical size for swallowing. It would be difficult to swallow, much less see, a pill of 1mg mass.

2) You shouldn't split a bunch of pills in advance. Split one at a time and use its pieces. Then split another. That blue coating is there for a reason.. yes, to ease in swallowing...but also to prevent the medicine's oxidation by air and/or light and/or heat.

3) It won't matter if your slices aren't exactly 1mg. In fact, I challenge you, without the proper laboratory scale, to achieve 5 equal weight portions. Don't overanalyze cutting the pills. Eye it as best you can and don't despair.

I would say it makes very little difference. My dosage has fluctuated slightly for years, without any ill-effect. If 1mg is your goal, then as long as you consume the entire Fincar pill in five days you should be all right. Don't sweat the small stuff. :)

Excellent info guys, thank you.

I only split 1 pill per every 5 days, and I store them in a lightproof bottle with a cap on top.

I do have a genuine prescription from a doctor, for Propecia, but the stuff is too expensive so I went with Cipla Fincar. I 'think' it's real  ..

Hairwegoagain's information was especially detailed. And I definitely agree you shouldn't spit more than 1 pill in advance, for reasons of efficacy. BTW, I've ordered Fincar from popularchemist in the past, and am 100% positive I received genuine product. :) Good luck.

Well I'm almost 100% certain that I have genuine Cipla Fincar.. it says so on the back of each blister pack and looks really legit... I couldn't prove that it's real though Cipla stuff though (why wouldn't it be?) and I can't prove that Cipla makes real finasteride (why wouldn't they though?)..

In other words.. I believe every day when I take a 1/5th of this Fincar, that I am taking 1mg FINASTERIDE, and doing what I can internally to block DHT, JUST as if I was taking 1mg Propecia... except with a huuuuge money savings.

I highly doubt anyone would make a knockoff product and label it with the Cipla name. It's not a particularly prestigious marque in pharmaceuticals. I'm sure if it says Cipla, it's genuine Cipla, served up to you straight from Mumbai.

As long as it's finasteride inside, I don't care about any other marketing, regional, corporate issues or otherwise.
