I'm pretty sure that I agree with this opinion. Finasteride has never been shown to alter the genetic material of gametes, so I can see no problems at the conception level. The only time that I could foresee a problem would be during the sexual development of the fetus and I'd still be surprised as the finasteride would have to go systemic, cross the maternal-placental blood layer and make its way into the fetal circulation at rather overwhelming concentrations. Plus, you'd have to indulge in unprotected sex with your partner during the second trimester of pregnancy (that's just messed up anyway) and the time interval is incredibly small (something like two days in murine models).

In pregnant monkeys, the dose that must be given in order to demonstrate any effect is 60-120 times the highest possible dose that any human female would ever be exposed to intrapartum. It takes approximately 2 mg/kg/day of exposure or 1-2 million times the highest estimated exposure of finasteride in semen in order to get urogenital defects. That's only in males. No abnormalities have ever been observed in females.

i believe one study showed how much finasteride was in semen, i don't remember the number but it was ridiculously insignificant

but i can still see to where the pharmacist is coming from, it would seem kind of selfish to take finasteride, if it could cause a birth defect... but science tell us the chance is non-existent

I agree that a man probably shouldn't even have finasteride in his home while his significant other is pregnant, but I think that as a family the couple should focus far more on prenatal visits/care, proper nutrition, and absolutely making sure that the woman takes her prenatal vitamins on a daily basis.

Heck, continuously reusing water bottles exposes both a woman and the fetus to estrogens put into the bottles to assist with their structural integrity. Not to mention all the hormones that are found in America's beef, etc.

If you want to do the thing right, then educate yourself, because the potential for hormone and drug exposures from numerous products is a very real problem.

I think Men have been taking finasteride long enough for us to have a large sample.

And I believe someone once posted a study that it took something 450 mg's directly injected into a pregnant rats vag to cause a problem.

But thats off the top of my head....I could be wrong.

You should already know how finasteride will affect the fetus before taking finasteride.
and If you intend to have kid, stop finasteride for 1-2 weeks. thats what I would do. better be safe than sorry

how would you know when you will have a kid? I mean if you are married chances are you would be having sex spontaneously without condoms.

There's one thing about finasteride that all of you guys should always remember: finasteride is for men only, it says right there on the label! Don't ever forget it.
