I think they were just testing for safety at that point which is why they are now trying it on actual scalps

Feeling some undeserved hate towards Sweden in this thread. It seems like no matter where I go on the net nowadays I get sh*t simply for being Swedish. Had hoped to not have to suffer from it in a forum like this where we're supposed to be supporting each other.

Anyways, from what I could get from the presentation these are the main points:
- Phase II study results will be presented this fall, but they didn't specify what month
- Preliminary results from the phase II study showed an increased hair growth among 75 % of the candidates
- Apparently the 8 % effect was on the thigh study, but I didn't quite get how that figure differs from the 60 % increase in hair density
- Though the study was performed on thighs, they are positive as the hair follicles on the scalp are easier to manipulate
- If the phase II study comes out successful they will begin a phase II study on a topical solution. The goal is a solution that will need to be applied less often than minoxidil
- Preliminary results on the topical solution (they didn't mention whether it's performed as a separate study but it seems likely) will be presented before the summer
- They will be looking for a partner for the phase III study

I don’t know where “60%” even came from. This is what the Follicum site states:
Follicum’s clinical phase I/IIa trial, conducted with healthy humans, shows that the hair growth is stimulated with 8 % in 76 % of the individuals compared to before treatment – an increase wich is statistically verified (p=0,0038, non-multiply adjusted). The data from our trial also shows a significant higher effect when comparing three to two times treatment per week. This indicates that the frequency of treatment is important to optimise the effect of the drug. Placebo showed a decrease of 2 % in growth (p=0,4613).

I found this regarding Follicum...from what understand the final product will be a topical not an injectable, not sure why the studies wouldn’t Studies include a topical lotion , ointment, gel etc.


FOL-005 is a modified, short version of the endogenous protein, osteopontin. In the recently completed phase I/IIa study, FOL-005 was shown to be effective and safe in stimulating hair growth, with 3 out of 4 subjects responding with increased hair growth. In the ongoing study, the patients are treated with different doses of the drug candidate FOL-005 or placebo, administered as injections at two sites on the scalp. Injections are given three times per week for three months. The study is expected to be completed in late 2018.
