So..... in 5 years?

This is mind blowing science, when have they ever done this before ? Who cares if it's in 20 years, just be happy that it's happening.

Like I said earlier, we're not in the position to have expectations.

These research groups don't owe us anything, so if they end up taking 50+ years, then so be it.

I think 3 years, the trials are sped up.

Though this particular research isn't being done in Japan so... 20 years.

Although if they decided to conduct trials in Japan, it may very well be in as little as 3 years.

They would first have to demonstrate safety and efficacy before something like this would be available to the public.

Man I'm desperately hoping for good news, but I have to say this seems to be the research 2 or 3 years ago done by Tsuji Lab. People were also very excited back then when hearing this. Unfortunately Tsuji Lab have gone with the wind...
Takashi Tsuji, maybe his crew also, has become employees of the japanese company Organ Technologies Inc. Though the company still got hair loss as one of the potential targets, it seems to me that they have put it to the bottom of the list.:(

So, If I get this correctly they have a potential cure but stoped researching it? Okay, Okay...

This stuff is pretty amazing. If they can turn IPS cells into any cell that's in the body, they should be able to regrow any human body part in the lab.

Obviously this is still in the future, but at least it's happening in our lifetime. Very cool stuff.

agreed. But there was a japanese researcher who took her paper back. what was that whole deal about? i mean i tried to read but i guess bio is not my thing.

The January articles in the scientific journal Nature, of which Obokata was the lead author, detailed simple ways to reprogram mature animal cells back to an embryonic-like state, allowing them to generate many different types of tissues – and offering hope for a way of replacing damaged cells or growing new organs in humans.

But questions soon arose about the research as other scientists were unable to replicate the startling results. Riken said its investigations found Obokata had plagiarized and fabricated parts of the papers, raising doubts about the credibility of Japanese science.

I need to start learning some Japanese. Why doesn't the FDA follow the footsteps of the Japanese?

We need to march in there and get EVERY single FDA employee and affiliate and throw them into a bottomless pit, even the janitors. Then we can finally start fresh without any resistance.

Like, make all drugs and anabolic steroids available for public, but warn them about the dangers. I would call this project "Darwin"

Seriously, any bioengineering having to do with cells is potentially cancer in a tube. Just rub it over your head

No, I am not talking about dangerous drugs here. My point was that they shouldn't make 7 years trials, just to test the safety while there are millions of desperate people out there.

What I really don't get is this: everybody here is desperate for hair and would do a lot to get there hair back, but still they back down from things like finasteride, people it is FDA approved... So it is safe and effective, they tested it long enough and we all know how long these trials are. Only 2% experienced sides and they are not even permanent only in very rare cases they are. So people want hair and would do anything for it, but also want a cure that is totally super safe?

I rather live for 4 more years and enjoying my life than being a loner the rest of my life, seeing how other people are happy while you are sitting alone in your home, because if you are going outside people are treating you like a nazi zombie.

I don't think any of the universities or research groups (besides RepliCel) plan to inject any types of cells into your head.

I think the goal is to grow hair follicles in vitro and then implant them.

The likelihood of things going south is pretty minimal as the cells have already grown into what they were programmed to.

If they injected plain old iPS cells into your head, then I would be worried.

Why not a normal clinical trial and one independent of FDA scrutiny/ control? By the end of those studies it might be about the time to renew my passport.:sun:

It' a viable cure "in theory" then for hair loss. The potential for a cure "in practice" is yet another exercise in pulmonary endurance. All good things in their own time. Exciting nonetheless.
