It's even more difficult to get noticed today as an artist. Because of how many people want to become one and social media. There is absolutely no way One Direction or Justin Bieber would be popular if they're not good looking (requires hair). Image is everything.

Try to name one new male artist that appeals to younger audience who is not handsome. I know I can't.

Yes, Phil Collins and Woody Harrelson managed successful careers while balding.
But, as entertainers, they did it in an era I like to call the "balding exceptibility" era.

This era ended somewhere in the 90's.
You have to remember too, Genesis always had a kind of middle aged man/dad rock appeal, they were never a rock band if youth, angst, they were never stylish or cool. Woody Harrelson was never a pretty boy or sex symbol. In some genres or to some audiences it matters less, but if your appeal is to younger people, teens or young women then that's where male pattern baldness will become an issue.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your a**h**. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

I used Phil Collins and Woody Harrleson as examples because I've heard people say they are attractive and they aren't super unrealistic examples like The Rock or Vin Diesal.

As for boybands: yes, I will accept that teenage girls probably will never like a bald man. They tend to like pretty boys with skinny with a little muscle bodies. But I ask this, why the f*** would you want to appeal to teenage girls?

I see them all the time. Dudes that have really thick hair, but when you really look at their face, they're not handsome at all. It doesn't matter often times though, the illusion of them actually being handsome is in full effect with good hair.
No goofy face thread would be complete without David Schwimmer.

He would still look like sh*t bald though.

Doesn't everybody? Some look better bald than others of course, if they've got the right features, head shape and height to pull it off. Still I think the vast, vast majority of bald people would look WAY better with hair (and the right hairstyle to compliment their features).

Vin Diesel. Looks really weird with hair. Looks amazing bald. Lucky guy though.... it worked so well for him, it turned him into a movie star.

He's also got a nice skull shape, great darker skin and yes, he lifts. I have started to do a lot of running though (did about 11km over the weekend). I personally don't care much for muscle, I'd rather be 'slim' and fit it all the clothes I really want.

Vin Diesel always looked like a hound dog to me.
It's alright for those who love a bald hound dog.
