Hair loss at Young Ages

Honestly, if my hairloss started in my 30s I really would not care as much at all, even if it were my late 20s. But the fact it is starting in my early 20s is difficult. It makes me sometimes doubt if what I have is male pattern baldness because it is so unreal at a young age, that would be denial though.
I've heard of posters even younger dealing with hairloss and I can't imagine how they must feel. Hopefully minoxidil continues to work and I respond to finasteride positively without sides.
Who else has dealt with hairloss early on in their age and cares to talk about **** they've gone through?

Its unreal! I started at sixteen

Epic **** hair genes.

What helps me cope is making lots of money to be able to afford the luxury of purchasing transplants and in return time to enjoy what I have left.

Imagine having **** hair quality that's see through! When I buzz my hair and let the sides, and back grow out... it's a reality check. That I will become a nw6 in the future.

just wait till 50, women after 50 dig into bald men ;-)

I was born with NW2 and it progressed to NW3 at 18yo.

Started to notice recession at 17, must have started about 16. It's not only that it would be easier to deal with in your 30s because its appears more common but at such a young age it will be very aggressive and therefore conventional treatments are less likely to work.

I cannot imagine what that must have been like. Great to hear you can afford those transplants! I plan on getting one once I graduate college and have a substantial job. I really need to be getting on to finasteride soon... can't wait for this upcoming doctor's appointment.

Take finasteride, problem solved.

Shook, what's interesting about your situation though is that despite your sh*tty hair genetics, you don't need to take finasteride now so that you won't lose your native hair. I've read that most hair transplant patients are very strongly recommended to take finasteride so that they do not lose the native hair around the transplanted hair.

of course. Which I do not mind because I suffer from zero side effects that I am aware about.

Id rather some hair then no hair.

Once I grow it out in my style, and get the sides and back tapered it will be all good again. Right not it's a mess because the growth is patchy. In the effected areas it grows slow, while some areas grow fast. another few weeks then i am good

How the **** was shooks an NW2 at age 16 and he managed to keep anything at all worth re-growing? I've been confused about him before and asked about it- and I don't get it, only a short time ago he was seriously considering a rug (I mean to each their own but to me that's the last step of desperation at end game) and even tried one and went through the maintenance of it, and now he's talking about having a full enough head of hair?

What the ****'s going on with some people on here.

There are a few people who have been here for almost 10 years and haven't even tried finasteride. If, after 10 years of "hair loss" they still haven't tried finasteride and still come here to talk about hair loss... then what kind of hair loss do they have? What bull****.

Thank you! I know the type you mean but with shooks, I'm not saying he's lying or anything (about this anyway) but it's not adding up, does anyone know what state his hair is actually in? I don't think he replied to me last time I asked.

What exactly are you so confused about H.I?

I tried a rug because I was tired of having nappy, see-through esque hair & wanted the real deal. However the maintenance, and everything involved from terrible cut ins, to coloring experience made me deter to my former hair.

I have managed to keep my hair, having been on finasteride for close to four years now. Prior to this the recession was very slow, but I became a NW2 literally over night in my teenage years.

Some people have very slow loss, but its apparent that my hair is diffused all over which I was blind to before hand. Grown out hair helps dellude our perception, but from the comments I recieved, and subtly thinning I seen... I have had this for a very long time, but was not fully aware of the extent until i shaved,

OK thanks, I was confused over someone having hair loss at age 17 could keep enough of it by the time it comes to finasteride, but was also confused as to why anyone who can possibly regain their hair would consider a rug, but fair enough.

I'm guessing you have regrown some as well, because my understanding of a balding 16/17 year old is that no amount of finasteride or minoxidil is really going to maintain, it'll just slow the process.

Ah, and I didn't even notice your signature before. I see.

Shook's hair situation is totally incomprehensible.
Early thinning; transplants; hair piece; shaving; full head of hair.
Way too much experimentation for my tastes!!!

You keep mentioning your diffuse hair loss becoming apparent when you shaved. Do you have photos of it? Are you sure you aren't imagining it a bit due to BDD etc? With a shaved head, in almost any lighting it WILL look thinner on too because of the direction of the light and the direction in which the hair is pointing. I.e. With the light coming from above the top of the scalp will appear slightly lighter and the back and sides darker even without hair loss because the light is hitting the scalp directly on the top and also because on the back and sides the hair direction is downwards (away from the light).

Well, when a girl mentions your sides and back are different hair color then the top and you see dark & light patches, chances are it is diffuse.
