Results: ~ 01/09/2006 – definitely seeing some new vellus sprouts in my left temple area;
~ 01/13/2006 – maintenance month; no dramatic regrowth but no major setbacks.
~ 01/28/2006 - at casual glance, my hair looks full and healthy and may have thickened up a bit “cosmeticallyâ€. No evidence of regrowth except for those vellus hairs.
~ 02/20/2006 - “might†be seeing slightly more density on top and a few new hairs in the temples region. Still showing a lot of scalp – but things might be starting to improve.
~ 02/22/2006 – “think†I see a few vellus hairs in my left temple going terminal.
~ 03/14/2006 - Using March 2005 pictures as a baseline (1 year anniversary beginning Proscar) not a heckuva lot of difference in the past year. No regrowth / no further loss. If I go back and compare the 3/14/06 pictures to the 08/01/04 pictures, I may have gained a little hair in the rear crown area but lost a little hair in the front hairline and temple areas.

Good Luck Everybody!

March 16th, 2005

Hello Everyone - newbie to this forum, although some of you might already know me from a few other hangs.

Starting thinning / receding back in the 70s. Mostly vitamin therapy (biotin, choline, inositol, B complex) between 1976 - 1996.

Beginning approx 1996: minoxidil 2%, nano, prox-n, iamin, nizoral 2% - nothing really worked until going on proscar in '98 (1/4 tab, 4 out of every 5 days).

After 8 months on 1mg proscar, minoxidil 5%, Nano and Nizoral 2% - I went from a NW4 to a 3. Yayyyy.

Boobs grew. Booooooo.

Life got really weird (had nothing to do w/ hair) and I dropped all hair regrowth efforts - until I realized that last spring (may 2004) I had transformed into a NW5A. Booo Hoooo Hoooo.

Jumped into action . . . and here's what I've been doing since last May.

Minoxidil 10.5 months (5%, xandrox15, ozbrew)
Shampoos 10.5 months Nizoral, Dercos, Nioxin, Nano, revivogen

Copper Peptides 10.5 months 1-4x per week (switched from Iamin Hydrating Gel to Folligen spray in Oct.04)

Vitamins 10.5 months
Biotin, B-complex, calc/magn/zinc, E, Ginko, L-arginine, L-lysine
~ 10/19/04, added MSM, Inositol, Saw palmetto, Beta-Sitosterol, C, Flaxseed Oil,
~ 03/01/05, added Choline, Fish Oil, Fo-Ti, Grape Seed Extract,
~ 03/01/05, dropped Saw Palmetto

2% spironolactone 8 months 2x daily (since July ‘04)
Revivogen Serum 6 months 1x daily, 1ml+
Asian Green Tea 6.0 months 2-3 cups per day
Cigarettes 3.5 months cut back from 1pack + per day to 2 – 4 cigs per day.

March's pictures showed no regrowth anywhere on the crown - and even a slight receding in the temporal areas, so . . .

Proscar 1 Day 1 mg every other day (First dose, 3/14/05)

So now - after a 5 year hiatus - it's back on proscar - but this time at a reduced dosage and hopefully the sides won't reappear.

I'll use up the remainder of my revivogen, spironolactone, xandrox15, etc. - - but then ultimately drop them and just stick w/ the Big 3.

Good Luck Everyone!

!!! crap! all this stuff? to prevent hairloss? *cough....seriously..have you guys heard of transplant?! why doesnt anybody here go for that instead of spending so much on all this for years and years?!? instead of using all this and waiting so long for results , the disappoinments? why not go for a transplant? these arent even permanent cures are they? just temporary dht blockers? gonna depend on all this for the rest of your lives? i'm sorry, i'm new to this and i dont get it.

the hairclub in my city has this hairsystem which they call "full contact hair", its basically synthetic hair that feels 90 % like human hair, they attach it to your scalp through a membrane, you can swim , style it with gel etc, and it has the least maintenance possible. costs around close to 500 USD. i believe most of the people here have probably trippled that on just pills and minoxidil sprays?

Yeah, even after a transplant you still need to use "dht suppressors" to hold onto that. Best regimen is finasteride/minoxidil/nizoral, it's fairly cheap...the rest is all decoration and unnecessary really.

Brother Lizzad - thanks for that update. I was doing OK on the finasteride and arimedix until about week 6 when the familiar nipple burn started up - so I did some estrogen-related readjusting too.

Currently I'm still on 1mg proscar EOD, but also 20mg daily Tamoxifen. I'm hoping that the tamox and this weird anti-fat cream I'm using plus cranking up my exercise routine will help w/ my breast enlargement issues from years gone by (suspended Arimedex for now - plan to resume in 2.5 months).

Everything seems kosher for now.

I'd gotten into the habit of applying ozbrew in the AM - and my hair's really been looking like crap lately. This morning I used Dr. Lee's 5% instead - and what a difference. Hair looks pretty good for a NW5A :)

Stay the course my friend.

Good hearing from you.

Ever considered gyno surgery? Removal of the estrogen sensitive nodule/lump...

ps. If i were you i'd keep the DMSO well clear of the spironolactone, especially the 2% liquid version.

> Ever considered gyno surgery? Removal of the estrogen sensitive nodule/lump...

ummmm, NO :) I'm too much of a woos - and I'm hoping for the best w/ the current treatment. If I was getting any surgery - I'd be looking into a transplant :) I'm hoping I don't have a lump problem (felt one for a few days recently which is when I went on tamox) - just an excess tissue problem.

> ps. If i were you i'd keep the DMSO well clear of the spironolactone, especially the 2% liquid version.

Noted - Thanks. I hardly use the spironolactone anymore - still have a partial bottle though.

Sorta. I just don't have the time to post like I used to but I am trying. I always answer PM's and I still do some behind the scenes stuff for the site......

Like handling the complaints from the waves of homoerotic PM's some of our frequent users send out to some of our poor newbies.

I didnt' quite catch this.

The Lizz is concerned that DMSO will increase the absorbtion rate of the spironolactone - which could help exacerbate or bring on gyno.

Update - Go Back to Message #1 for Complete Regimen

~ 03/14/2006 - Using March 2005 pictures as a baseline (1 year anniversary beginning Proscar) not a heckuva lot of difference in the past year. No regrowth / no further loss.

If I go back and compare the 3/14/06 pictures to the 08/01/04 pictures, I may have gained a little hair in the rear crown area but lost a little hair in the front hairline and temple areas.

I'm pretty much thinking that the first 8 - 9 months of proscar @ the reduced dosage and every other day didn't help at all in terms of regrowth. May have helped w/ maintenance.

I'm hoping now that between getting ready to start month 4 on 1 mg proscar daily plus SZ plus Alpecin C1 plus a bunch of internals - that I might be seeing some improvement in the next few months.

Hang tough y'all.
