Hairline Destroyed After 6 Months On Finasteride. Can I Recover?

I just hit year three since noticing even the slightest thinning. I was reluctant to try treatments but started oral Minoxidil in May 2017. Huge shed, slight recovery but hair not as strong as what was lost. Continue to shed everywhere. Diffuse thinning with no recession.

Story and photos here:

Tried RU June 2018-October 2018. No change, no additional loss. Hairline still strong.

October I gave in and tried Propecia once a day. A week in I noticed real sides. Doctor advises I try topical instead. Sides calmed down but still present. By November my temples began to recede fast. I committed to 6 months and read that it could be a good sign (she’d).

I’m going to stop the topical and my hair is far worse than I could have imagined.

1. Could the Finasteride have led to hairline loss? Can stopping help some recovery? Could this mean it wasn’t AA? There is apparent miniaturization.

2. Anything else to try?

Please advise.

Is it possible that this is just the progression of your hairloss and that topical wasn’t working for you? I’m sure you know there aren’t too many success stories with topical finasteride

It is possible. I tried the oral and couldn’t manage the sides. My density is all but gone.

I’m still not 3 years in from crazy thick healthy hair.

I’m desperate. Ranked my T as well and the doctors want me to try HCG to get the levels up. I’m concerned that will burn of any of the hair that’s left.

lol wtf are you talking about dont you see his hair has next to no height despite being that long? he clearly is diffusing and has lost considerable amounts of hair. probably has 50-60% density left
Alex,
How old are you? There are a bunch of kids on there that lose some hair and freak out. I'm seeing a problem with the treatment approach, not the hair. For 1 why not stick to a treatment for a year and see if it works. Starting and stopping different sh*t makes things worse. I would go straight to dutasteride and not use finasteride. I got headaches from finasteride. So I stopped and switched. Lots of misinformation are spread on the forums about AA. You won't become a woman and your willie won't shrink.

Thanks Alex, that’s one of the worst aspects of diffuse loss. Everyone sees hair and thinks your nuts, while you feel bald and deal with constant shedding.

I’m using nothing at this point but oral minoxidil. I had sides on even topical Finasteride plus wasn’t making any progress.

I’m miserable and feel helpless watch the rapid decline. At least 60% lost in under three years.

Meds are not advised to prevent hairloss, if you use an altering hair cycle in a normal hair, the med make his work and you can have hairloss.
bluecyclone, are you diagnosed by a Doctor? Have you a photo of three years before?

you said:

Yes. I have seen several specialists including Dr. Konior (Chicago transplant leader) he put me on the oral Minoxidil. Told me it was what all of the hair doctors he know take even as a precaution.

Here is 3 years ago.

how dr. Konior diagnosed you? trichogram, biopsy, wash/pull test?

In the image your hair seems fine.

That seems scarey. I might keep on the topical Finasteride and hopefully overcome the sides. Happening really fast.

I know man it’s crazy. I feel like an a$$ because I still have solid coverage but like I was at 100% three years ago and dropping fast at about 30/40...

Man, a lot of people including myself would probably say f*** off with your bullshit hair loss. You've got so much hair and density and your hair line is great. But I do see some signs of miniturising hairs and tbh, it all depends on the speed of it. You can slowly creep towards baldi g for the next 20 years but also it can happen in 3-4 years. So I thi k you are balfi g just not sure how fast is going to happen. For me it like an atomic bomb: crazy density, more than most of people around me and then in a span of 5-6 years 70-80% of my top head gone. So I think you are entitled to panic but don't be too chaotic, choose your fight carefully!

you clearly have BDD. Your hair looks better now than it did in the 3 years ago picture. I saw your posts on your "hair loss" story thread. Your hair has improved. AND your in your 40s. Get off this forum and get treatment for your BDD.
