finasteride works for any form of male pattern baldness. diffuse is male pattern baldness so youre fine

it probably is working for u in the sense it almost definitely slowed your hair loss. probably just not enough to stop it. u can either look at it 2 ways... i'm gonna go bald eventually so it doesn't matter if i take it or u can take it and postpone your male pattern baldness in the hope that something better might come along soon. if u can afford it, i'd stick with finasteride.

Are you sure it's not working? I know you say you're still losing hair, but are you sure you have visibly receeded or thinned since you started?

I think I remember Dr Rassman from baldingblog.com saying that in his opinion finasteride always works. It may not be enough to halt hairloss in some people, but it always slows it down...

In one of the clinical trials 83% of men on finasteride maintained their hair count, while 66% regrew some hair. But that leaves nearly a fifth who continued to lose hair...

if studies showed 83% of men maintained their hair, how does that leave nearly a fifith who continued to lose hair?

I was the sharpest tool in the shed when it came to maths at school, but god damn!

I'd say it's closer to a sixth.

Just my 0.02cents

C'mon mate, don't be so pedantic.

100 - 83 = 17

1/5 = 20%

17 is nearly 20 in my book! OK perhaps I could have said "over a sixth continue to lose hair". But that sounds less intuitive.

17 x 5 = 85

17 x 6 = 102

It's not slightly closer to a sixth, it's definetely closer.

Anyway, I'm going to go sit myself in a corner and continue to lose hair! :)

You're right of course, but you've got to remember that those numbers were only from one trial, I think they'd be subject to sampling variation.

So you're taking finasteride and still losing hair?

Dude, not only am I losing my hair, I'm losing my eyebrows!!!

In saying that, I've only just recently started finasteride again after quite some time off (read my story in the appropriate section)

Arguably, for the 17% who continued to lose hair, perhaps it would be worth it for them to continue taking finasteride, because they potentially lost hair AT A SLOWER RATE than without finasteride.

That's the Dr Rassman argument, apparently. I think it would be better to make the jump to dutasteride.
