funny me and the drummer Im working with started writing original stuff now. We have two VERY diff writing styles as well we will need to blend like our music creating styles.
I went through a lot of old stuff in my lyrics and trashed a ton of it.
I usually write off the cuff as well. I tend to write lyrics in my head when listening to other music. It helps but also becomes a crutch because then you tend to make the music similar. Then if you try to stray the lyrics sounds like crap.
Im sure your stuff is fine.
On the other hand Im a sexist prick and refuse to be in ANY band with a female. Ive always stood my ground on this because the girl always tends to just become a focal point because its a girl. The guys in the band also tend to get swayed as well for whatever various reasons.
I also just dont like female singing. Never did, not all of course but like 90% because they all sound the same to me.

Almost all of the lyrics are write are for a man to sing.
I wrote this one for a woman to sing so I could challenge myself. Since I'm a straight male it's a challenge for me to write from the perspective and tone of a woman, especially a woman that's a prostitute. You see, women think and feel and talk differently about sex than men do. And a female prostitute thinks and feels and talks differently from both a man, and a woman who isn't a prostitute. I wanted this song to read and sound like it's something a female prostitute could say, think, and feel so that when a woman sings it, it will sound perfectly natural coming out of her mouth.

Hey it rhymed! The song "denial" by the group Sevendust is a good song, the song "stupified" by Disturbed is great too.
On another note,music that's too Mainstream bites! It's all been done before but better, I go to the bars in my city and everyone does half assed remakes of songs(karaoke singers and bands that perform for beer), it's like a really bad episode of that so called talent show american idiot, you know what show i'm talking about lol, they don't even get free beer, two winners of the show scary underwood and clay eggs and bacon made it big,kelly got big with fame,she was better off poor,she was prettier back in the day(just being honest)hotdang!just say no already lol.

I think you're wrong. I don't think it's all been done. And certainly someone "better" could come along. I think that if you come up with something that's better than what's already out there, and that reads/sounds at least a little different, and it's never been read/heard before then people will take to it, at least for awhile.

So are you saying that if "Hotel California" or "Crocodile Rock" was released today for the first time they would flop?
I really don't think so.
And I'm not comparing my song about prostitution to "Hotel California" or "Crocodile Rock" because "Hotel California" and "Crocodile Rock" are way more dramatic songs than my light fluff song about prostitution. Hotel California is an especially serious song whereas my prostitution song is a boozy floozy type of song that would be kind of cool jammed out late at night a little before last-call when everyone's wasted and loose. It's not a serious song but it is well written for what it is.
