Hi,

I have been using Minoxidil 5% from 6 months and have seen very good results. I have definitely seen new growth and my hair loss was also under control. However, lately i have noticed that my shedding has increased. I wanted to get your opinion on why the increased shedding:

1. My body has gotten used to the 5% minoxidil and has stopped responding.
2. Just a normal shedding cycle that will eventually slow down ( has been going on for 1 month now).
3. Shedding is normal while using Minoxidil due to accelerated growth (Maybe i just didnt notice it in the beginning as my shedding hair was thin back then compare to what it is now.)

Thanks!

I have been on minoxidil 5% for 5 years. The first 1-2 years was the best, new hair grew all over including frontal and temples. There were definitely times even during the first 1-2 years when I shed more than others but overall this hair should come back. Make sure to use it twice per day everyday.

You might simply be noticing the hair more.

Although it causes shedding - most hair loss stuff does - I have notices minoxidil has increased the density of my hair. People think I have dyed it (I guess that's a positive thing!) so my hair is more obvious when it falls out.

I put my Regaine on with my head over the sink so see how many hairs are falling out, and it's getting less and less. It used to be loads, but now just about 20 - 30 a time, and considering I am rubbing the scalp this is a good thing, because people with full heads of hair still shed up to around 200 hairs a day.

You must take into consideration that the newly regrown hair has a shorter cycle. There are apparent fluctuations of hair counts/hair weights during the initial months/years of minoxidil use.
