Horrible Shedding Right On Next Day After Starting Finasteride :(

Now first of all I am russian myself, but I live in Austria for a long time, so I am sorry for my bad english right away. I am 29 right now and I think I have really aggressive type of male pattern baldness as you will see from the photos below. It all started when I was 27 or maybe 26, I didn't pay that much attention to it back in the days, but half a year ago I started to worry a lot and searched on the web, the only 2 products to help were minoxidil 5% and finasteride 1 mg. When I read about finasteride I was horrified by the possible side effects, so I didn't use it yet, I started with minoxidil only in december 2015. As usual 2 times a day 1 ml. in the past month started to even pour 2 ml. 2 times a day because 1 ml. was not enough to cover all the bald spots well anymore after I grew my hair after shaving it before. When shaved I could actually better cover the area with minoxidil.

This is how my head looked like back july 2015:

From right (dry condition) http://postimg.org/image/817uxg8l7/

This is from January 2016 (1 month after applying minoxidil):

Now 1 month ago (May 2016):

From front (dermarolled 0,5 mm. before applying minoxidil, that's why a bit red skin) http://postimg.org/image/aw508tx8b/

And finally this photo has pretty bad quality but I think you can see how full of hair I had back in 2012 http://postimg.org/image/x0vancepn/

Seeing all the progress (if there is even any) I started worrying too much and started taking finasteride 1,25 mg (no other here in Austria except 5 mg. which I divide into 4 pieces)

And I noticed immediately at day #2 after taking it I started to shed like crazy, maybe even 300 hairs a day or so, I can't count, here are some pics of what fell out today in the morning after shaking and massaging my head as hard as I could for about 10 minutes :( :

From far distance http://postimg.org/image/3ze6s0rgr/
From close distance http://postimg.org/image/qu8cmkk5n/

As you can see it's a lot. The thing is, my hair line as you can see has not receded at all, here is the evidence from close distance http://postimg.org/image/agkomxy0r/ (photo from the left front side), well maybe a tiny bit, overall there is much less density on the whole Androgenetic Alopecia/male pattern baldness area as you may noticed compared to photos from july 2015 or is it just hair being very thin and short on that area, what do you guys personally think about it?

I asked a hair transplant specialist from Germany via E-Mail about so much hair falling out after taking finasteride, he said, that this can happen in the beginning, don't panic it's actually a really good sign and it means the drug is working and that he himself also uses finasteride 1,25 mg.. I didn't experience any side effects at all from finasteride, my concern is only will it help my hair? :( What do you guys think, should I stay on my current regime (finasteride 1,25 mg. a day, 2 times 2ml minoxidil a day and nizoral 2% 2-3 times a week) or should I quit using finasteride? also I wash my hair with a bio-shampoo every day because minoxidil leaves so much white stuff on my scalp, it's crazy, I don't think that this is dendruff, never had that much dendruff back in the days, and it still helps me only a little bit to reduce it, any ideas of what I can do to completely get rid of this white stuff?? Still this white stuff is there even though I try to wash it, seems like nothing helps, any specific shampoo maybe or something else? I will upload some more photos later with a closer look at it. If I should stay on it even though it sheds horribly. How long can it actually last? It's been a month now and still shedding like crazy. When I started minoxidil never had a shed ever, and after a 2 month mark my hair stopped falling out, I had only about 3-4 hairs after shaking it in the morning when I wake up, but now it's just horrible. Also, do you think I gained at least tiny bit of regrowth after half a year minoxidil only?

The thing I personally find strange is that among the lost hair there are hairs that seem broken, with no follicle. Is it possible your "head massage" is a bit rough and breaks hair?

Well, not really. I massaged it with middle force with just my finger tips and I keep my nails always cut. Tried massaging the back of my head as hard as I could and only 1-2 hairs would fall out, same goes when I try to pull them off on the non-Androgenetic Alopecia-male pattern baldness-area, they have become very strong and thick, I guess it's due to the supplements I am taking for 3 months now (biotin, zinc, multivitamin, saw palmetto, omega-3 fish oil and selen). When I try to pull out hair on my Androgenetic Alopecia-area, I can do it with ease, but there is only little amout I can pull out with root, mostly it's like hair breaks somewhere, but there is still something left as you can see. I wonder if finasteride helps me at all tbh. I was at my urologist after 2 weeks after starting finasteride and he said all the hormone levels are the same still after doing a blood test. Shouldn't finasteride actually lower DHT a lot?

I also read an article, type in google "Prostaglandin D2 Inhibits Hair Growth and Is Elevated in Bald Scalp of Men with Androgenetic Alopecia"

If you scroll down a bit, you can read following:

Eighty percent of Caucasian men experience some degree of androgenetic alopecia (Androgenetic Alopecia) before age 70. Testosterone is necessary for Androgenetic Alopecia to develop, and a genetic susceptibility locus in the androgen receptor is present in a minority of men with Androgenetic Alopecia; however, additional factors contributing to this disorder remain unknown. Studies on Androgenetic Alopecia have the potential to yield insights into other androgen-mediated diseases.

And I am caucasian myself :(, so I am very unlucky with this. Could a normal testosterone also cause some kind of hair loss aswell? I am asking this because a guy here on forums said that the shedding never stopped for him and finasteride/dutasteride made things even worse (hair started to get thinner and thinner after almost 2 years) unless he tried oral Spironolactone, which I read can cause impotence or difficulty having an erection, and this is only one of those side effects, that spironolactone can cause. He went with a very radical treatments for Androgenetic Alopecia I must say, I don't know if I should risk like this. Could may be just dropping finasteride and upgrading to dutasteride improve my situation or should I stick to my treatments for now for a little while yet? I mean, it's not that long that I started finasteride., started on may 9th., so it's 1 and 1/2 month only. I really don't wanna lose my hair though :( . I hope to at least keep what I have, because from what I see I have a really good density of hair on non-Androgenetic Alopecia-area, which I can at least use for hair transplant later on. I just don't know if I can save my hair for now, it's really bad that you just have to wait so much for it, I really lost all my confidence because of my current look.

I got to be honest man. It isn't looking that good. You are pretty badly diffused at this point and your crown is getting wrecked too into NW6 area.

Problem is you can't really do much. You could try dutasteride instead of finasteride and hope for stabilization and if you are lucky some cosmetic regrowth at this point.

thanks, Swoop. I think I am gonna order dutasteride asap. Where can I buy it cheap to ship to Austria? Any idea?

Time for an update. I hope people are still observing my progress here. I will be fighting this to the end, whatever it takes.

So what can you say guys from the updated pictures, taken 1 week ago? Has my hair improved, got worse or is it just the same yet? Appreciate your help here. Thanks! There are also some pics taken during wet hair, for better comparisons. IMG_1429.JPGIMG_1354.JPG IMG_1367.JPGIMG_1352.JPG IMG_1432.JPG IMG_1399.JPG IMG_1403.JPG IMG_1418.JPG

I am aiming for the hair I had back in 4 years (me on avatar from 2012)

It might seem strange, but I think my crown recieved a pretty good boost. I may be wrong though. But I was just comparing the pics and it does seem to me like it. Also, by looking the the hair in the back I think I have an amazing donor area, which I can use for hair transplant if nothing really helps. Though, I heard about bad user experience when having the same diffuse hair thinning like me, because when new hair is being planted it can destroy other less thick hair, that is still present. Is this true? I mean, I still have that same hairline and everything, the problem is I have much less density because hair is thinner now, than before, also it doesn't grow as long as before, but it's still there and can be saved I suppose.

@Rdx I really advice you to take it daily. I even doubled the dosage after 1 month of usage, I am 3 months on finasteride now, soon hitting 4 month mark. Still hard, no erectyle disfunction, nothing, in fact I think my libido even raised a bit.
